Tulane Sharp In 43-14 Win Against Grambling State

NEW ORLEANS -- Quarterback Jonathan Banks threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as Tulane took a 43-14 victory against Grambling State Saturday night at Yulman Stadium.

Banks, making his first career start with the Green Wave after transferring from Independence Community College, completed 10 of 15 passes for 185 yards and finished as Tulane's leading rusher with 69 yards and a TD on 16 carries.

Tulane finished with 481 yards of offense and had a 26-10 advantage in first downs against the Tigers, who saw their 11-game winning streak snapped.

Banks led Tulane to touchdowns on the Green Wave's first two drives, including a 7-yard TD run with 7:06 left that gave Tulane a 14-0 lead. Banks' third TD pass of the day went to Darnell Mooney early in the third quarter to give the Green Wave a 31-0 lead.

Wide receiver Terren Encalade scored a pair of touchdowns - the first on a 30-yard pass from Banks in the first quarter and the second on a 58-yard run from scrimmage in the fourth.

Defensive end Ade Aruna had 2,0 tackles for loss, while cornerback Parry Nickerson registered a team-high six tackles.

Tulane takes to the road for the first time next week as the Green Wave visits Navy Saturday.
