DALLAS - Three SMU quarterbacks had a hand in five combined touchdowns as the Mustangs took a 58-14 win against Stephen F. Austin Saturday night at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
Ben Hicks started for the Mustangs and therw for 112 yards and two TDs. Hicks was spelled in goal line situations by D.J. Gillins, who finished with two rushing touchdowns, while Rafe Peavey came on in the fourth quarter and threw one TD pass among his three attempts.
SMU finished with a 465-219 advantage in total offense and a 25-15 edge in first downs. Safety Jordan Wyatt scored a pair of defensive touchdowns with an 85-yard interception return in the first quarter and a fumble recovery in the end zone in the second period.
Trey Quinn had a team-high four receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown for the Mustangs, while preseason All-America Courtland Sutton had two catches for 22 yards, including a 13-yard TD.
Braeden West rushed for 86 yards on six carries, while Ke'Mon Freeman had 63 yards and a TD on 14 carries.
SMU is back in action Saturday against North Texas.
