Highlights
- Wichita State (6-0) remains undefeated through week two after two exciting come-from-behind victories on Saturday. Going down 2-0 to start off the day against Marquette, the Shockers battled back to win three straight sets with Tabitha Brown recording a service ace in the fifth to give her side the 19-17 win. Brown ended the match with a double-double of 21 kills and 18 digs, while totaling three stuffs at the net. The Shockers dropped their first set against Miami (Ohio), but once again, Wichita State won the next one and refused to look back from there. With the fourth set tied at 25-25, Brown and Mikaela Raudsepp each had a kill to win the match. Brown led the way with a career-high 24 kills and a .400 hitting percentage and was named Tournament MVP.
- The Golden Hurricane joined Wichita State in going undefeated this weekend after adding two more wins on Saturday. Tulsa (4-2) enjoyed a sweep victory after taking down the host SIUE for its second three-set win in a row. Emily Hubbard totaled a match-high 12 kills in the win. Callie Cook and Rachel Moore each had double-digit kills, while hitting over .300 in the Golden Hurricane’s second Saturday win over Wright State (3-1). Emily Thorson had a double-double with a team-best 15 kills and 11 digs, while Hubbard had a double-double of 17 digs and 12 kills. Thorson was named the MVP of the Cougar Classic.
- USF rebounded in its final match of the weekend, sweeping Grambling State. Clara Payne powered for a .857 hitting percentage with six kills and no errors on seven attempts. She also had six blocks. Payne was named to the All-Bulldog Tournament team.
- UConn defeated Hartford, 3-0 to end their home opening weekend tournament 2-1. Kayla Williams registered 14 kills, seven digs, and three service aces, as the Huskies are 4-2 overall. Kenya Cason and Emma Turner were each named to the All-Tournament team in their home invitational.
- ECU swept Bucknell to conclude its weekend action with a 4-2 overall record. Head coach Julie Torbett earned her 397th career victory, while Lael Ceriani and Bri Wood were named to the Hatter Classic All-Tournament Team following the match.
- Temple came out strong, sweeping St. John’s, as Izzy Rapazc posted 11 kills and eight blocks with a .474 hitting percentage.The team surged for a .378 hitting percentage with Rapazc leading the way with nine kills and hitting .500 with seven blocks. Mia Heirakuji was named the Desmond Hotel Invitational MVP.
- Memphis (2-4) completed a 2-1 weekend after defeating Little Rock in three sets. The Tigers tallied 15 blocks, while Brianna Kadiku led the way with five. Faith Myers was named to the Central Arkansas Invitational All-Tournament Team. She had 55 assists and 24 digs in the weekend's three matches.
- SMU (3-3) won its third straight match with a sweep at Arkansas State. The Mustangs posted 10 blocks, including five by Lexi Nordmann, and Lauren Mills scored 13 kills in the win. However, SMU’s winning streak came to an end in its final match of the tournament when the Mustangs fell to Virginia Tech in three sets. Mills led the team with her third double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs.
- UCF took a three-set loss to Miami (Fla.) for its third and final set of the weekend. The Knights ended their week two action 2-1 and have a 3-3 overall record.
- Tulane’s five-game winning streak was snapped in a four-set loss to Stephen F. Austin to end the weekend. Lexie Douglas posted double-digit kills with 13. The Green Wave are 5-2 overall.
- Cincinnati went to five sets to start off the day, but suffered a 3-2 decision in favor of Texas State. Jade Tingelhoff and Carly Nolan each had double-doubles. Tingelhoff then had a season-best 52 assists. Nolan put down a season-best 24 kills against Western Michigan, but the Bearcats took a 3-1 loss to wrap up the weekend action. Cincinnati drops to 1-5 overall.
