Tulane Rallies Past Army, 21-17

NEW ORLEANS - Quarterback Jonathan Banks capped a 19-play, 75-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run with 23 seconds left to give Tulane a 21-17 win against Army Saturday afternoon at Yulman Stadium.

The Green Wave converted three fourth downs on the game-winning drive, including a fourth-and-1 from the Army 6-yard line with 47 seconds left, as head coach Willie Fritz went for the win in regulation instead of settling for a tying field goal.

The gamble paid off when Banks scored on a keeper to the right side on the next play.

Running back Dontrell Hilliard rushed for 134 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in the game. Sherman Badie spring free for a 72-yard touchdown in the second quarter, giving Tulane a 14-10 lead at halftime.

Army claimed the lead late in the third quarter on a 5-yard run up the middle by fullback Connor Slomka to make it 17-14.

Banks, in his first game back in the lineup since he was forced to leave a Week 2 matchup against Navy due to injury, threw for 103 yards on 10-of-22 passing and added 40 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Army had all 371 of its offensive yards on the ground as the Black Knights went 0-for-5 passing with two interceptions. Andy Davidson finished with 130 rushing yards on 26 carries.
