- Carly Nolan had her eighth double-double this year with 18 kills and 15 digs on the way to leading Cincinnati to its third straight conference win, defeating Tulsa 3-1 in its home opener. Jasmine Jones hit a .542 with 15 kills in the victory. Emily Thorson had 21 kills to lead her side’s offense for the 10th time this year, as the Golden Hurricane drops to 1-2 in conference play.
- The Shockers (11-3, 3-0) also remained undefeated in American action after picking up a 3-0 win over USF in their conference home opener. This marked Wichita State
25’s seventh sweep of the year, as the Shockers enjoyed a .402 hitting percentage, while holding the Bulls to hitting .110. Wichita State Setter Emily Hiebert had 11 kills and hit a .667, while adding 35 assists for her fourth double-double this year.
- SMU (9-5, 3-0) fought a tough battle to come from behind to become the third conference team of the night to remain perfect in league play with a five-set win over ECU. The Mustangs dropped their first set to the Pirates before taking the next two and going the distance, winning the fifth to capture the five-set thriller. Kendall Patterson had a season-best 59 assists, which ties the conference season record this year. She added 11 digs for her sixth double-double. ECU’s setter Shelby Martin had 49 assists, 11 digs and seven kills with a .429 hitting percentage. The teams combined for eight players reaching double-digit kills and another eight tallying double-digit digs.
- UCF and Memphis also went the distance with the Knights coming out on top in the fifth set to win their second conference match of the season. UCF is 3-1 in five set matches this season and was led by Kia Bright, who posted her league-high 10th double-double with 17 kills and 27 digs. She also hit a .410 to lead her side. Memphis’ Hannah Flowers topped Bright’s hitting percentage with a .412 with 17 kills and two blocks. Both teams had three players reach double-digit kills, as a combined four players in the contest had a double-double.
- Houston snapped a 24-league match setback in style, recording its first American win since Nov. 20, 2015 with a sweep victory over UConn at home. The Cougars hit a .375 fueled by Megan Duncan, who had 15 kills and hit a .419. Kayla Williams had a match-high 18 kills for the Huskies with a .300 hitting percentage.
- Temple and Tulane went to four sets with the Owls handing the Green Wave their first loss of the season at home. Temple has won its second in a row and is 2-1 in league play this year, as Tulane drops to 1-2. Temple hit .338, holding Tulane to .080 in the match. Temple’s Kyra Coundourides posted her third straight match with 30 or more assists, setting 48 tonight, while Janine Simmons tallied a career-best 11 kills.
