Tulsa's Okalova Takes Women's Tennis Player of the Month Honor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its men’s and women’s tennis honors for the month of September.

Okalova, who is ranked No. 73 in the preseason Oracle/ITA singles rankings and No. 5 in the doubles rankings, began her fall season by going 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles at the Mizzou Invite. She won all three of her singles matches in straight sets, defeating players from SMU, Houston and Missouri, while her doubles wins came against Houston and Missouri.

A number of American Athletic Conference players will be in action in early October at the 2019 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships. The women’s singles draw features Tulsa’s Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner along with UCF’s Valeriya Zeleva. Okalova and Ploner will also compete in the doubles draw, while Zeleva will join Ksenia Kuznetsova. Tulsa also will have the tandem of Marina Davtyan/Shura Pooppe in the doubles bracket.
 
A number of other players from The American may reach the main draw through the qualifying rounds.
 
Competition in the main draw begins Oct. 9 and concludes Oct. 13.
 
The 2020 American Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will be held in April at the Michael D Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The women’s championship takes place April 15-18, while the men’s championship will be played April 16-19.
