PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the 2019 women’s soccer awards, voted on by the league’s 10 head coaches.
Regular season champion Memphis earned for year-end honors, as Elizabeth Moberg earned Goalkeeper of the Year, Clarissa Larisey was named co-Offensive Player of the Year and Mya Jones was unanimously selected as the league’s Rookie of the Year. Memphis’ coaches were also recognized as the Coaching Staff of the Year.
USF’s Evelyne Viens was named the co-Offensive Player of the Year, the second year in a row she has earned the honor, while teammate Andrea Hauksdottir repeated as Midfielder of the Year. UCF’s Konya Plummer was named Defensive Player of the Year and the Knights also garnered the Team Fair Play Award.
Viens and Larisey repeated as unanimous First-Team All-American Athletic Conference selections and it was Viens third consecutive year as a unanimous honoree and fourth time being selected to the first team overall.
Viens leads The American with 16 goals and 35 points, which rank fifth and sixth in the nation, respectively. The senior has set American records for career goals (64) and career points (151). She leads the nation in shots on goal per game with 3.40 and is second with 1.07 goals per game.
Larisey is second in the conference with 15 goals and 34 points and ranks 11th in the nation with 0.83 goals per game and fourth in shots on goal per game with 2.67.
Plummer anchored a UCF defense that is second in The American and 11th in the nation in goals-against average at 0.474 and is 18th in shutout percentage at 61.1 percent.
Moberg leads The American and is fifth in the nation with a 0.314 goals-against average. The junior is 18th in the country with an 86.5 save percentage. With nine shutouts this season, Moberg has set The American record for career shutouts with 27.
Hauksdottir played every minute in conference play for the Bulls and she is fourth in the conference with seven assists. She also has four goals on the season, three of which came in conference play.
Jones has had an excellent first season with the Tigers with three goals and nine assists for 15 points. Her nine assists rank second in The American and 22nd in the nation.
Memphis head coach Brooks Monagha’s staff has led the Tigers to a 16-1-1 record and is unbeaten in their last 15 matches heading into The American Championship. The Tigers have been perfect at home with a 9-0-0 record and have earned 12 shutouts on the season.
UCF earned the Team Fair Play Award after totaling 72 points (67 fouls, one yellow card, zero red cards) during conference play. The Fair Play Award is given to the team with the fewest accumulated fouls, yellow cards and red cards in league action (foul = one point, yellow card = five points, red card = 10 points).
