USF 1, UConn 0
Georgina Corrick struck out 13 batters in her 20th win this season, the Bulls' 12th straight conference win and fourth straight sweep, with a 1-0 win at UConn on Friday afternoon. Corrick needed just four strikeouts to reach her 200th of the season, and she soared to that feat in just two innings. The British National Team pitcher struck out two batters in the first, and three in the second to surpass that mark. With her 209 strikeouts this season, she ranks eighth in program history in a single-season. She now has 373 career strikeouts, placing her at ninth in the career strikeout records as a sophomore. With today's shutout win, Corrick is also tied for eighth in career shutouts (11) with Cristi Ecks.
For the third game in a row, USF jumped ahead early and scored one in the first inning. Lindsey Devitt bunt singled and scored an unearned run when Bethaney Keen reached on an error. UConn was held to three hits – one each from Reese Guevarra, Briana Marcelino and Kelli Bates – while Jill Stockley took the loss, allowing one unearned run on two hits and four walks in 3.1 innings.
ECU 3, Wichita State 2
ECU snapped Wichita State's six-game American Athletic Conference winning streak Friday with a 3-2 victory at Wilkins Stadium. Erin Poepping was the winning pitcher, tossing her 18th complete game of the season while striking out 10 batters and allowed just one earned run. Tyler King was 2-for-4 with a run scored while Halo drove in all three of ECU's runs.
The Shockers had five different players record hits, with Sydney McKinney driving in the only RBI for Wichita State with her double in the fifth. Caitlin Bingham recorded four strikeouts in five innings pitched, while Erin McDonald took the loss after striking out two batters in the final two innings.
Tulsa 3, UCF 2
Tulsa rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to come from behind for the second straight day to defeat UCF, this time by a score of 3-2, on Friday to claim its fifth consecutive American series. Rylie Spell hit her fourth homer of the season, while Julia Hollingsworth went 2-for-3 and scored the game-winning run on a hit off the bat of Haley Meinen for the Golden Hurricane. Samantha Pochop picked up the win in relief of Chenise Delce, who allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts in six innings of work.
Cassady Brewer had two of UCF’s six hits, including a double, while Damaria Cannon had a pinch-hit RBI double in the fourth. Alea White took the tough-luck loss after entering in the bottom of the seventh and allowing back-to-back hits.
Houston at Memphis (Cancelled)
With continued inclement weather in the Mid-South, Friday's Memphis-Houston game has been canceled. The series will be condensed and feature only a doubleheader on Saturday, with game one set to begin at noon with game 2 of the doubleheader beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
