Briana Marcelino's RBI single in the bottom of the 11
th inning gave UConn a 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac on Tuesday afternoon as the Huskies wrapped up non-conference play. Katie Koshes tossed 7.2 innings of relief, allowing three hits with five strikeouts, to pick up the win in the circle. Six different players tallied a hit each for UConn, including Ashley Esty's single and stolen base in the 11
th to set up Marcelino's game-winner.
Houston 17, Sam Houston St. 1 (5 innings)
Houston scored a season-high 17 runs on the way to a 17-1 midweek victory over Sam Houston State. Houston's 17 runs are the most the Cougars (35-16) have scored in a game since 2016 against UT Arlington when the team plated 18 runs. The Cougars' 17 hits against the Bearkats also marks back-to-back games that Houston has reached the 17-hit plateau. Lindsey Stewart led the way with a game-high three hits, while Rachel Hill and Caela Kincade both connected on a home run. Arielle James, Kelli Montgomery and Sarah Queen each had two hits.
UCF 6, North Florida 2
UCF ousted North Florida 6-2 Wednesday evening to wrap up the home schedule as Breanna Vasquez earned the win after tossing 4.1 innings and allowing two runs on four hits. Alea White picked up her first save of the season after finishing up the final 2.2 innings. Four different Knights posted at least two hits each, including Cassady Brewer's two doubles. Damaria Cannon also added a double to her two-hit night, and Erin Emanuel went with a triple in the win.
