UConn 2, UMass Lowell 1 (OT)
Kess Elmore scored a goal from about 35 yards out in the 92nd minute to earn UConn a 2-1 overtime victory at UMass Lowell Saturday night. The Huskies (4-3-1) earned their first road victory of the year.
After an own goal in the first half by the UMass Lowell goalkeeper, but the River Hawks tied the game in the 70th minute. UConn was outshot, 8-3, in the second half, but had the only shot in the extra frame.
Cincinnati 0, Austin Peay 0 (2OT)
Cincinnati launched 24 shots and collected 12 corner kicks, but was unable to find the back of the net as the Bearcats played visiting Austin Peay to a 0-0 draw Saturday night. The Bearcats, who have now seen their past two matches end in 0-0 score lines, improved to 2-5-2 on the year while the Governors, who also have now played in back-to-back draws (2-2, 0-0), moved to 1-4-3 on the year.
Madison Less continued to keep a clean sheet and collect the 11th shutout of her career as the Bearcats are now unbeaten in their last three contests.
Texas Tech 2, USF 1
USF fought hard but ultimately dropped its final nonconference game of the season to Texas Tech, 2-1. The Bulls led in most categories on the score sheet, but it wasn't enough to counter two early goals from the Red Raiders.
Sabrina Wagner put the Bulls on the board in the 39th minute and was assist by Emma Davies. USF led in shows, 16-6, and corner kicks, 9-2.
Sunday, Sept. 22
UCF 1, UC Irvine 0 (OT)
Kristen Scott scored the golden goal in the 99th minute to lead UCF to a 1-0 overtime win Sunday afternoon in Irvine, Calif. The win was the Knights’ fifth-consecutive victory and improved UCF to 5-1-2 on the season.
The Knights led in shots, 13-7, and need every one of them to pull through. Elise Legrout’s shot was saved by UC Irvine’s keeper and Scott pounced on the ball. Her rebound was also saved, but Scott’s second chance went in the back of the net for the game winner.
Tulsa 6, Chicago State 0
Tulsa recorded its second-most goal tally of the season with a 6-0 win over Chicago State to improve to 6-4-0 on the season. Kayla Fernandez opened the scoring in the 37th minute before Addyson Guthrie tallied in the closing minutes of the first half.
Jordan Martinez and Reagan Whitlow scored within two minutes of each other before Mia Darden tallied a brace to close out the scoring.
SMU 2, Oklahoma State 2
SMU fell behind No. 25 Oklahoma State by a pair of goals, but stormed back to earn a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla. With the result, the Mustangs moved to 7-1-1 on the season and drove their unbeaten streak to five.
After Oklahoma State scored five minutes into the second half to take a 2-0 lead, the Mustangs came back to within one on a goal by Celiana Torres at the 59:00 mark. SMU then was able to draw even in the final second of the game off a 22-yard strike from Isabelle Nashimi.
Oklahoma 2, Houston 1
Houston fell at Oklahoma, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in Norman, Okla. The Cougars fell to 3-6-0 on the season.
Houston struck first in the game on a goal by Jazmin Grant, her second of the season, but the Sooners scored five minutes later to tie the game. OU tallied in the 58th minute to take the lead and the Cougars were unable to come back.
Penn 2, Temple 1
Temple (2-4-3, 0-0 AAC) had a strong first half against Penn on Sunday night, but ultimately fell to its Philly foe, 2-1, behind two second half goals by the Quakers.
The Owls got on the board first in the 34th minute. Hailey Gutowski ripped the initial strike on goal, but Penn's keeper got a hand on it to deflect the attempt. Emma Wilkins gathered the rebound and buried it in the back of the net.
UNCG 1, East Carolina 0
A goal off a corner kick was the difference as the ECU soccer team lost 1-0 at UNC Greensboro on Sunday night. ECU finishes the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 3-5-1 record while UNCG wins its third straight match and is now 3-5-1 as well.
UNCG led in shots, 17-10, and corners, 4-2. Melanie Stiles made five saves for the Pirates. UNCG scored in the 54th minute.
