11.14.20

HOUSTON - Quarterback Clayton Tune had a hand in five touchdowns as Houston snapped a two-game slide with a 56-21 win against USF Saturday afternoon at TDECU Stadium.

The Cougars scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams as they evened their overall record at 3-3 and improved to 3-2 in American Athletic Conference play. USF fell to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in The American.

Tune threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns and was the game's leading rusher with 120 yards and two TDs on the ground.

Marcus Jones scored a touchdown on a 72-yard punt return, while Derek Parish reached the end zone on an 85-yard fumble return.

The Cougars scored the game's first 42 points before the Bulls answered with three straight touchdowns of their own. Bentlee Sanders' 38-yard interception return closed the deficit to 42-21 with 10:22 left in the fourth quarter, but Tune's third TD pass of the day with 5:35 left capped a five-minute drive that effectively put the game away.

Jones had 145 yards on four punt returns, good for second on The American's single-game chart, trailing only the 175 yards by former Houston standout Demarcus Ayers against Tulane in 2015.
