PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its weekly men’s and women’s tennis honors for the week-ending February 10.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabriel Decamps • Jr. • UCF • Sao Paulo, Brazil
Decamps repeats as The American’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after he went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and defeated a ranked tandem in his only completed doubles match of last week. He was a straight-set winner (6-4, 6-3) in singles against the nation’s No. 43-ranked player in the Knights’ 5-2 loss to No. 7 Wake Forest and took a three-set win (5-7, 6-4, 6-1) at No. 1 in UCF’s 6-1 victory against Virginia. Decamps joined Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Virginia’s tandem which had a No. 53 national ranking.

The 2020 American Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will be held in April at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. The women’s championship takes place April 15-18, while the men’s championship will be played April 16-19.
 
 
MEN’S TENNIS UPDATE
UCF (4-3) went on the road and won a thrilling 4-3 decision at Illinois in the Knights’ only match from last week. Six of UCF’s first seven opponents were either ranked or received votes in the Oracle/ITA poll when the Knights faced them. Gabriel Decamps was ranked No. 7 in singles play in the first ITA rating of the spring season. UCF is idle until a Feb. 29 matchup against Florida Atlantic.
 
UConn (1-8) fell to Fairfield and Fordham by 6-1 scores in the Huskies’ two matches last week. UConn looks to snap a seven-match slide this weekend with a Saturday match at Hofstra and a Sunday contest against Siena in Manchester, Connecticut.
 
ECU (6-1) went on the road for three matches and came away with two wins last week as the Pirates took a 4-0 win against Hofstra and a 7-0 victory against NJIT, but were edged 4-3 by St. John’s. Wisse Jonker and Federico Masetti lead the team with six singles wins in dual matches, hwile Agustin Tamagnone is off to a 5-0 start to the dual season. ECU hosts Hampton Friday before the Pirates visit VCU Sunday.
 
Memphis (1-6) dropped a pair of matches in Nashville as the Tigers fell 5-2 to Vanderbilt and 4-0 to Harvard. Memphis looks to rebound Saturday with a match at Arkansas.
 
USF (5-2) picked up a 7-0 win against Stetson in the Bulls’ only match from last week. USF took four of the six singles matches in straight sets and won third-set tiebreakers in the other two to snap a two-match slide. USF is off until a Feb. 21 match at SMU.
 
SMU (8-2) split a pair of matches by 4-3 scores as the Mustangs were edged by Old Dominion before rallying to top Nebraska last week. The doubles point proved to be the difference in both matches as SMU split its singles matches against both opponents. Jordi Redelijk is off to a 5-1 start in singles play in the dual season. SMU will visit LSU Saturday and is at Tulane Sunday.
 
Temple (3-2) has won three straight matches after the Owls scored a 5-2 win at George Washington last week. The Owls dropped the doubles point, but claimed five of the six singles matches against the Colonials, including a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 from Marin Delmas. Temple’s only match this week will be Saturday against South Carolina State.
 
Tulane (4-4) scored an impressive 4-0 win against No. 20 Mississippi State last Friday, but the Green Wave was unable to sweep the week’s action as Texas Tech pulled out a 4-3 victory Saturday. Hamish Stewart, ranked No. 64 nationally, scored a 6-2, 6-1 win against the No. 61-ranked player from Mississippi State and went on to get a 6-0, 6-4 win against the No. 62 player from Texas Tech. Tulane hosts SMU Sunday.
 
Tulsa (5-3) fell 6-1 to Alabama in the Golden Hurricane’s only match from last week. The lone team point came from Boriss Kamdem at No. 6 singles, who was a straight-set winner. The Golden Hurricane looks to snap a three-match slide when it faces Arkansas Wednesday.
 
Wichita State (7-3) took both ends of a doubleheader against Creighton and UMKC last week as the Shockers scored a pair of 5-1 wins. Elio Lago has a team-high seven singles wins in the dual season, while Marius Frosa is 6-2 on the year. The Shockers have three matches in the state of Iowa this week. Wichita State will face Drake Friday and DePaul Saturday in Des Moines before visiting Iowa Sunday.
