No. RV Tulsa moved to 6-0 on the 2020 season with a pair of wins to open the Mississippi State Bulldog Classic on Friday, blanking Tennessee State 2-0 and outlasting host Mississippi State 2-1.
 
Mikayla Whitten brought Haley Morgan home by way of an error in the bottom of the fourth inning and ultimately doubled home Kyndal Pirtle in the win over Tennessee State. Tajiah Ellison, Sarah Briers and Aubree Seaney also added hits in the win for the Golden Hurricane.
 
Sara Llamas-Howell allowed two hits in 4.2 innings as the starter against Tennessee State, adding one strikeout in the win. Samantha Pochop yielded a lone hit in the final 2.1 innings with four strikeouts to pick up the save.
 
Alexis Perry contributed a sacrifice fly in the third inning and Kylie Norwood ultimately scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to provide the offensive lift for Tulsa against Mississippi State. Makayla Jackson added two hits to the Golden Hurricane stat sheet.
 
Chenise Delce yielded an earned run on six hits in 4.2 innings to pick up the victory. Kassidy Scott threw 2.1 no-hit innings for her second save of the year.
 
Wichita State 13, Saint Louis 2 (5)
Wichita State 12, UTSA 1 (6) (Bobcat Classic, San Marcos, Texas)
 
Wichita State blitzed the competition with 25 runs on 29 hits during the opening day of the Bobcat Classic, blasting Saint Louis 13-2 in five innings before adding a 12-1 run-rule decision against UTSA in six innings at Texas State’s Bobcat Stadium.
 
In the opening game against Saint Louis, Neleigh Herring went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored for Wichita State, and Ryleigh Buck chipped in a pair of hits and three runs for the Shockers. Bailee Nickerson turned in three hits and drove in two, and Wylie Glover homered and logged two RBI and a pair of runs in the win.
 
To cap the day against UTSA, Herring finished 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, and Madison Perrigan added two hits, a home run of her own and four RBI for Wichita State. Buck kicked in three hits and three runs, and Sydney McKinney went 2-for-4 with a run.
 
Erin McDonald went three solid innings with four strikeouts to earn the win over Saint Louis, and Bailey Lange struck out six in six full innings against UTSA to claim the victory.
 
UConn 8, Central Michigan 0 (5)
UConn 7, Stetson 0 (The Spring Games, Clermont, Florida)
 
UConn improved to 5-2 on the year with an 8-0 win over Central Michigan in five innings before shutting out Stetson 7-0 on day one of The Spring Games.
 
In game one of the day, Aziah James went a perfect 3-for-3 with a stolen base and three runs, and Marybeth Olson turned in two hits and three RBI for UConn. Brian Marcelino clocked a two-run home run and scored twice on offense for the Huskies.
 
Olson shined in the circle as well, allowing two hits in a five-inning shutout that featured two walks and eight strikeouts.
 
Marcelino added two hits and three RBI later in the day in the victory against Stetson, and James again logged three hits and scored three runs with a steal. Reese Guevara drove in two runs for the UConn offense.
 
Meghan O’Neil allowed two hits in six innings, walking one with two strikeouts on 72 pitches. Katie Koshes spun a no-hit seventh inning with a strikeout in the circle for UConn.
 
No. RV Houston 7, Dayton 0
No. 21 Oregon 4, No. RV Houston 2 (Houston Classic, Houston, Texas)
 
No. RV Houston battled to a split to open the Houston Classic on Friday, shutting out Dayton 7-0 before falling to No. 21 Oregon 4-2 at the Cougar Softball Stadium.
 
Kelli Montgomery logged a 2-for-3 day with a home run and three RBI for Houston in the Dayton win, scoring twice for the Cougars. Kati Ray Brown added a solo home run and a pair of runs scored to the Houston cause, and Charese Wyatt fashioned a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI and a run scored.
 
Megan Lee allowed three hits in an 82-pitch shutout, walking one and striking out six.
 
Oregon scored three runs late to erase a 2-1 Houston advantage in the day’s second game to secure a comeback win. Wyatt logged an RBI double that drove in Rock Benavides in the third inning before ultimately scoring herself on a wild pitch. Logan Hulon went the distance for Houston, allowing eight hits and four earned runs with two strikeouts.
 
East Carolina 3, Hampton 1
DePaul 4, East Carolina 2 (Pirate Clash, Greenville, North Carolina)
 
East Carolina split two games in Friday action at the Pirate Clash at the ECU Softball Stadium. The Pirates downed Hampton 3-1 before falling to DePaul 4-2 in the day’s nightcap.
 
A Chandley Garner RBI double and two unearned runs that came across on a throwing error powered ECU in the Hampton win. Ashleigh Inae reached base in all three of her plate appearances, which included two hits and a run scored, while Rachel McCollum and Olivia Narron each stole a base and scored a run for the Pirates.
 
Kama Woodall allowed one earned run on three hits in seven innings, walking two with seven strikeouts on 106 pitches in the win.
 
A fielding error in the bottom of the sixth inning against DePaul allowed Inae and Sydney Griggs to score both ECU runs in the contest. Despite allowing no earned runs in 2.2 innings, Erin Poepping earned the hard-luck loss for the Pirates.
 
UIC 5, Memphis 4
Memphis 3, FGCU 2 (Florida Gulf Coast Invitational, Fort Myers, Florida)
 
Memphis went 1-1 in its first day at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational, dropping a heartbreaking 5-4 decision to UIC before bouncing back with a 3-2 win over host FGCU on Friday night.
 
Delaney Smith recorded a 2-for-3 day with two RBI and a run scored against UIC, and Megan Chism added an RBI and a run for Memphis. Sam Ibison and Hannah Bassham also scored runs for the Tigers.
 
Baylee Smith drove in two runs with a triple in the second inning against FGCU, and Ibison chipped in two hits that included an infield RBI single. Sara Ann Davidson and Ryleigh Aungst each tallied runs for Memphis.
 
Chyanne Ellett allowed four hits and no earned runs in five innings, walking two with three strikeouts. Mariah Nichols tossed two shutout innings of relief for the save.
 
No. RV UCF 3, Iowa State 2 (Knights Classic, Orlando, Florida)
 
No. RV UCF needed nine innings to dispatch of Iowa State on Friday night, and Karissa Ornelas delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Knights past the Cyclones 3-2.
 
Shannon Doherty had tied the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, extending the contest. Ornelas ultimately delivered the game-winning single to left field to plate Montana Szara for the win.
 
Gianna Mancha allowed an earned run on three hits in 7.2 innings, striking out eight on 134 pitches in an impressive no decision. Alea White earned the win with 1.1 innings of no-hit relief in extra innings.
 
#9 Alabama 9, USF 1 (5) (St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational, Tampa, Florida)
 
USF fell victim to eight runs over the final two innings from No. 9 Alabama in a 9-1 defeat in five innings on Friday during the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
 
Dezarae Maldonado brought home the lone USF run in the game with a solo home run in the top of the second inning, tying the game at 1-1. Tayli Filla led the Bulls with two hits in three trips to the plate, and AnaMarie Bruni and Meghan Sheehan each chipped in a hit apiece.
 
Georgina Corrick took the loss for USF after allowing six earned runs on six hits in 3.2 innings, walking seven and striking out three.
