USF 3, No. 17/19 Texas Tech 0 (St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational, Clearwater, Florida)
 
Playing its fifth straight game against a top-20 national foe, USF broke through with its first win of the season on Saturday. The Bulls held No. 17/19 Texas Tech to three hits in a 3-0 shutout upset at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational to give interim head coach Jessica Moore her first career victory.
 
Brooke Hartman got USF on the board with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing home Bethaney Keen and Brooke Leistl on the play for the 3-0 Bulls advantage. AnaMarie Bruni added two hits of her own to the USF offensive effort.
 
Camryn Dolby surrendered three hits during the shutout, walking two Texas Tech hitters and striking out three more to pick up her first win of the campaign.
 
UCF 7, Villanova 3
UCF 9, Iowa State 1 (6) (Knights Classic, Orlando, Florida)
 
UCF swept the day at the Knights Classic on Saturday with a 7-3 decision against Villanova and a 9-1 win in six innings over Iowa State at the UCF Softball Stadium. The Knights exploded for a five-run bottom of the first inning on their way to the win.
 
Georgia Blair powered the UCF order with three hits in four at-bats, including a solo home run and a pair of runs. Kyra Klarkowski went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run in her trips to the plate for the Knights, and Jazmine Esparza added two RBI to the cause.
 
Gianna Mancha yielded two earned runs in 6.1 innings, posting seven strikeouts in 101 pitches for UCF.
 
Juliana Wilson roped two hits, a double and a home run, and drove in four runs for the Knights in the Iowa State win. Denali Schappacher reached base three times and scored a team-high three runs, and Karissa Ornelas added two RBI.
 
Breanna Vasquez yielded one unearned run in four innings, striking out four to earn the win over the Cyclones.
 
UConn 5, Stetson 4 (9)
UConn 9, Central Michigan 3 (The Spring Games, Clermont, Florida)
 
UConn extended its current winning streak to six straight games, downing Stetson 5-4 in nine innings before blasting Central Michigan 9-3 on Saturday during The Spring Games.
 
UConn answered two Stetson runs in the top of the eighth with a double-steal and RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. A walk-off double in the home half of the ninth inning by Kiwi McDaniel scored Aziah James and Briana Marcelino for the Huskies win.
 
Along with McDaniel’s two RBI, Marybeth Olson reached in each of her five plate appearances, drawing four walks and adding an RBI double.
 
Megan O’Neil went the distance in the circle against Stetson, allowing two earned runs on nine hits in nine innings to claim the win.
 
UConn erupted for five runs in the top of the first inning and two runs in the top of the second against Central Michigan in the nightcap. James finished the game 4-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs, and Olivia Sappington blasted a two-run home run and drove in three total in the victory.
 
Katie Koshes scattered seven hits in seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out four Central Michigan hitters.
 
Memphis 8, Furman 3
FGCU 5, Memphis 1 (Florida Gulf Coast Invitational, Fort Myers, Florida)
 
Memphis won its opening game of the day at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational with an 8-3 victory over Furman, falling to host FGCU 5-1 in the nightcap. The Tigers quickly erased a 2-0 Paladins lead after the top of the first with three runs in the bottom of the frame, adding three more in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.
 
Brady Rowland finished with three hits and two RBI for Memphis, while Sam Ibison went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run in the win over Furman. Delaney Smith scored twice in the victory for the Tigers, and Sara Ann Davidson added two hits and a run.
 
Chyanne Ellett tossed 3.1 innings of no-hit relief to pick up the win, walking one and striking out six during the outing.
 
Davidson singled home Gracie Morton in the top of the seventh against FGCU for the lone Memphis run of the contest. Ibison was the only other Tigers player to register a hit during the loss.
 
Mariah Nichols was saddled with the loss after allowing two earned runs in 4.2 innings, adding five strikeouts.
 
ECU 9, George Washington 3
DePaul 13, ECU 2 (Pirate Clash, Greenville, North Carolina)
 
East Carolina split a pair of games during the second day of the Pirate Clash at ECU Softball Stadium, downing George Washington 9-3 before falling to DePaul 13-2.
 
The Pirates tallied eight runs over the first three innings against George Washington, two of which came off a Rachel McCollum home run in the second. McCollum finished the game with three RBI and scored twice, and Chandley Garner added a pair of runs for ECU.
 
Logyn Estes earned the win with four full innings of five-hit softball, striking out three for ECU.
 
DePaul broke the day’s second game open with five runs in the fourth inning and eight runs in the top of the seventh frame. Olivia Narron reached base three times and scored a run in defeat for the Pirates, and Ashleigh Inae and Sophie Wools both notched an RBI apiece.

Tennessee State 2, No. RV Tulsa 1 (10) (Bulldog Kickoff Classic, Starkville, Mississippi)
 
Tulsa saw its six-game winning streak to open 2020 snapped in the second game of the day Saturday at the Bulldog Kickoff Classic. The Golden Hurricane downed North Alabama 1-0 to open the day before dropping a 2-1 heartbreaker to Tennessee State in 10 innings.
 
A sixth-inning RBI double to left field by Chenise Delce scored Kylie Norwood and gave Tulsa the shutout against North Alabama. Delce, Tajiah Ellison and Mikayla Whitten were the only Golden Hurricane players to notch hits in the game.
 
Samantha Pochop allowed a single hit, a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth, and only two baserunners during the game, striking out 14 in only 96 pitches.
 
Tulsa tied the matchup with Tennessee State in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to an Aubree Seaney sacrifice fly to right field. Tennessee State took the game in the 10th inning thanks to an RBI single.
 
Makayla Jackson was a perfect 3-for-3 on the evening for Tulsa, and Norwood reached base in three of her four plate appearances. Kassidy Scott took the hard-luck loss after allowing one unearned run in three innings of relief.
 
No. 21 Oregon 9, No. RV Houston 4
Oregon State 8, No. RV Houston 0 (5) (Houston Classic, Houston, Texas)
 
No. RV Houston dropped a pair of decisions on the second day of the Houston Classic on Saturday, falling to No. 21 Oregon 9-4 before being run-ruled 8-0 in five innings by Oregon State.
 
Sarah Queen clocked a three-run home run to pace the Houston offense against Oregon, and Aspen Howie turned in two hits and a run scored. McKenna Fryar took the loss after allowing four earned runs in 2.1 innings of relief.
 
Oregon State yielded one walk and two fielding errors as part of a five-inning no-hitter of the Cougars in the second game. Megan Lee allowed eight earned runs on nine hits to take her first defeat of 2020.
 
Texas State 5, Wichita State 3
UTSA 2, Wichita State 0 (Bobcat Classic, San Marcos, Texas)
 
Wichita State finished on the wrong end of two decisions at the Texas State Bobcat Classic, falling to host Texas State 5-3 before being shut out 2-0 by UTSA on Saturday.
 
The Shockers tied the Texas State game in the top of the sixth inning after earning three straight walks with the bases loaded. The Bobcats regained the advantage with a solo home run and double-steal in the bottom of the frame.
 
Bailee Nickerson, Adi Reese and Wylie Glover all finished with RBI against Texas State, and Madison Perrigan added two hits for Wichita State. Bailey Lange allowed two earned runs in the sixth inning to take the loss.
