No. RV Tulsa 8, Dayton 0 (Mercer Invitational, Macon, Georgia)
No. RV Tulsa put the finishing touched on a 4-0 showing at the Mercer Invitational by shutting out Dayton 8-0 on Sunday.
Alexis Perry ripped a three-run home run to power the Tulsa offense, and Chenise Delce added three base hits, an RBI and a run scored on the day. Tajiah Ellison chipped in two hits and a pair of runs scored for the Golden Hurricane.
Samantha Pochop spun six innings of three-hit softball, yielding no walks and striking out 12 of the 21 batters that she faced to earn the win.
No. RV Houston 9, Northwestern State 6 (Houston Invitational, Houston, Texas)
No. RV Houston put the finishing touches on a 4-1 weekend at the Houston Invitational with a 9-6 victory against Northwestern State.
Aspen Howie went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, and Kati Ray Brown turned in three RBI on two hits for the Cougars. Charese Wyatt and Becca Schulte also drove in a run apiece for Houston.
Logan Hulon earned the win with 6.1 innings of relief out of the Houston bullpen, surrendering eight hits while walking three and striking out nine.
UConn 7, FGCU 3 (FGCU Softball Tournament, Fort Myers, Florida)
UConn picked up its second straight win to cap the FGCU Tournament, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning to topple host FGCU 7-3 on Sunday.
Olivia Sappington delivered a two-run double for UConn, and Reese Guevarra added a two-run single. Ashlee Dahman logged a 2-for-3 afternoon and scored a pair of runs for the Huskies.
Marybeth Olson capped a stellar weekend with four innings of three-hit relief, striking out eight batters with no walks on 71 pitches in the UConn victory.
East Carolina 4, Campbell 1 (Kickin’ Chicken Classic, Conway, South Carolina)
East Carolina claimed its second win of the weekend over Campbell, taking a 4-1 final score over the Camels on Sunday.
Logyn Estes went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored for ECU, and Kendra Ziemba added a pinch-hit RBI single. Olivia Narron reached base twice and scored a run for the Pirates.
In the circle, Estes threw 5.1 shutout innings with three hits to pick up the win.
UCF 6, St. John’s 2 (Black and Gold Tournament, Orlando, Florida)
UCF put together a 5-1 weekend at its own Black and Gold Tournament in Orlando, wrapping up the weekend with a 6-2 win over St. John’s at the UCF Softball Stadium.
Justene Molina capped a red-hot weekend with three hits, including a solo home run and two runs for UCF, and Kyra Klarkowski came across to score twice in the win. Georgia Blair posted a 2-for-3 day and an RBI for the Knights.
Alea White allowed two earned runs on four hits over five full innings, walking three with seven strikeouts on 80 pitches. Gianna Mancha spun two frames of one-hit softball with three strikeouts to earn the save.
Duke 3, UCF 2 (Black and Gold Tournament, Orlando, Florida)
Duke was the only blemish of the weekend on the schedule for UCF, opening the final day of play at the Black and Gold Tournament on Sunday with a 3-2 win against the Knights.
Jada Cody ripped three hits and added an RBI and run scored for UCF, and Shannon Doherty rocked a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the seventh frame.
Gianna Mancha scattered six hits over five innings of relief, striking out two batters in defeat.
Colorado State 8, Wichita State 6 (Texas Classic, Austin, Texas)
Wichita State closed the Texas Classic with an 8-6 loss at the hands of Colorado State to close a .500 weekend at Texas.
Bailey Urban logged a 2-for-3 day at the plate with three RBI and a run scored for Wichita State, and Neleigh Herring chipped in three hits and two runs scored for the Shockers. Bailey Lange contributed a two-run single to the Wichita State offense.
Lange took the loss as the game’s starter in the circle after allowing four earned runs in 1.1 innings pitched.
No. 7 Florida 6, No. RV USF 1 (USF-Rawlings Invitational, Tampa, Florida)
Playing against one of the most competitive tournament schedules in the country during opening weekend, USF dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 7/9 Florida at the USF Softball Stadium.
Madison Epperson connected on her first career home run for USF, as AnaMarie Bruni and Megan Pierro added hits on offense for the Bulls. Camryn Dolby allowed a pair of earned runs on two hits as the game’s starter to register the loss.
