Memphis, SMU Advance to NCAA Championship Second Round

Both Memphis and SMU advanced to the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship with wins, while South Florida fell in the first round in American Athletic Conference action on Sunday, November 14.

Memphis 3, LSU 0 - Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Memphis used three second-half goals to earn its first NCAA Championship win since 2011 in a 3-0 win over LSU. The Tigers (14-4-2) will now face No. 1 seed Duke on Friday, November 19 in Durham, N.C.

In the 50th minute, Jocelyn Alonzo took advantage after Tanya Boychuk was fouled on the edge of the box, but play was allowed to continue. Alonzo claimed the loose ball and slotted home to give Memphis a 1-0 advantage.

Memphis then added insurance goals by Aubrey Mister in the 74th minute and Bryana Buttar in the 78th minute to move on in the national tournament.

Elizabeth Moberg made three saves in a shutout for Memphis.

SMU 2, Texas 0 - Box Score
DALLAS, Texas - SMU used early goals in both halves to earn a 2-0 win over Texas. The Mustangs (12-4-2) will face No. 1 seed Florida State on Nov. 19 in Tallahassee, Fla.

In the sixth minute, Abby Dermott played a ball in the box that Jasmine Vilgrain played across the box. Alina Khan was on the end of the cross and scored from close range to give the Mustangs an early lead.

In the second half, Brooke Golik found Sammy Nieves in space in the Longhorn penalty box. Nieves left a ball off for Wayny Balata, who scored in the 48th minute to double the Mustangs lead.

Samantha Estrada made one save for the Mustangs.

NC State 2, South Florida 0 - Box Score
TAMPA, South Florida - South Florida's season came to an end Sunday as NC State defeated the Bulls, 2-0, behind goals from Annika Wohner and Jameese Joseph.

Wohner scored in the 24th minute off assists from Leyah Hall-Robinson and Fernanda Soto, while Joseph struck in the 51st minute.

Maria Echezarreta made two saves in a shutout for the Wolfpack, while Sydney Martinez made three saves for the Bulls (12-4-3).
