Houston’s Benavides, USF’s Corrick Earn Week 12 American Softball Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors, for the week ending Sunday, May 2.
 
Player of the Week
Rock Benavides * Sr. * IF * Houston
Benavides led Houston on offense in a 2-2 week against Memphis by batting .636 with a .733 on-base percentage, three RBI and three runs scored. She reached base safely in all four matchups against the Tigers and was on the pond multiple times in three starts. Benavides drove in a pair of runs and scored twice in the series opener against Memphis on April 30 and went 2-for-2 with a walk in the nightcap against the Tigers. She closed the series a combined 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in a doubleheader on May 1.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Georgina Corrick * Jr. * RHP * USF
Corrick became the first pitcher in the history of The American to throw no-hitters on back-to-back days, finishing a four-game series against East Carolina with a 2-1 record and spotless ERA over 24.2 innings pitched. She held the Pirates to a .026 batting average (two hits) in four appearances. Corrick walked one batter and struck out nine in the series opener on April 30 before yielding one walk and logging 10 punchouts for a second straight no-hitter the following day on May 1. She added 2.2 no-hit innings of relief with five strikeouts to earn the save in game two of a doubleheader against ECU on May 1. Corrick took the hard-luck loss with eight innings of two-hit softball, walking two and striking out eight in the series finale on May 2.

Batted .333 with a home run, five RBI and five runs scored in a 2-3 Memphis week; combined for three hits, three RBI and three runs scored in a doubleheader split against Houston on April 30
 
Kylie Norwood * Jr. * IF * Tulsa
Hit .533 with four RBI and four runs scored for Tulsa in four games against No. RV Wichita State; went a combined 5-for-8 with two RBI and four runs scored in the final two games of the series on May 1-2
 
Neleigh Herring * Jr. * IF * Wichita State
Finished a 4-1 week against No. 8 Oklahoma State and Tulsa with a .500 batting average, 1.062 slugging percentage, three RBI and five runs for Wichita State; went 3-for-3 with a solo home run in an upset win to take the season series against Oklahoma State
 
Kama Woodall * Jr. * RHP * East Carolina
Went 1-2 with a 1.29 ERA in three starts against conference leader USF; spun a two-hit shutout over eight innings in the series finale against the Bulls on May 2
 
Kyra Klarkowski * R-Sr. * OF * UCF
Led UCF with a .500 batting average in three starts at No. RV Ole Miss; went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the opening game against the Rebels
