Former Tulane standout Dominik Koepfer reached the third round of the singles draw of the 2021 French Open Thursday morning, while former Memphis standout Joe Salisbury won his opening match of the mens' doubles bracket.

Koepfer, representing Germany, won his opening match against Mathias Bourgue of France in straight sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-4). He went on to earn a four-set win Thursday against American Taylor Fritz, the No. 30 seed in the bracet. Koepfer was a 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 winner Thursday morning.

Koepfer battled the legendary Roger Federer in the third round, playing the 20-time Grand Slam winner to three tiebreakers in four sets before falling 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 7-5.

Salisbury and his doubles partner Rajeev Ram, the 2020 Australian Open champions who are seeded No. 3 in this year's draw, began their quest for a second major championship with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Salvatore Caruso and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Salisbury and Ram fell in the second round, however, coming up short in their quest for a second consecutive French Open quarterfinal appearance.
