UCF capped an undefeated weekend at Florida Atlantic with a sweep of host FAU, downing the Owls 25-13, 25-9, 25-17.
McKenna Melville had a match-high 12 kills, four service aces and four digs to power UCF, and Anne-Marie Watson hit .778 with seven kills and four block assists. Claudia Dillion hit .700 with eight kills.
East Carolina 3, Gardner-Webb 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-22)/UTRGV 3, East Carolina 0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-17)
East Carolina opened Friday with a sweep of Gardner-Webb (25-15, 25-16, 25-22) before falling in straight sets to UTRGV (19-25, 20-25, 17-25).
Bri Wood and Natalie Tyson tied for the ECU lead with 11 kills in the win over Gardner-Webb, and Janiece Jefferies contributed 32 assists and five digs. Wood’s 13 kills and seven digs led the way for the Pirates against UTRGV.
Houston 3, Western Carolina 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-19)/Alabama 3, Houston 1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-20)
Houston raced past Western Carolina in straight sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) before falling in four frames to host Alabama (23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 20-25) in Tuscaloosa.
Isabel Theut shined with a .700 hitting percentage and 15 kills with two blocks against Western Carolina, and Annie Cook contributed 40 assists and five digs. Abbie Jackson chipped in 13 kills and nine digs. Kennedy Warren had 15 kills and 10 digs in the Alabama match and Jackson added 14 kills and six digs.
Memphis 3, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16)/Arkansas State 3, Memphis 0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-19)
Memphis opened the weekend with a sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) but fell in the nightcap to Arkansas State 24-26, 20-25, 19-25.
Miaya Smith hit an even .500 with nine kills and six total blocks for Memphis in the win, and Loren Robertson went for a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs. Sabrina Bianco paced the Tigers with 29 assists and 11 digs against Arkansas State.
New Mexico State 3, South Florida 0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-15)/South Florida 3, Stetson 1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15)
South Florida split a pair of decisions at Stetson, losing in straight sets to New Mexico State (22-25, 12-25, 15-25) before beating Stetson in four sets (25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15.
Amiree Hendrick-Walker tallied six kills and two blocks against New Mexico State, and CC Clausen had a team-high 12 digs. In the win over Stetson, Marta Cvitkovic finished with 18 kills, four total blocks and seven digs. Clausen had a team-high 17 digs.
Villanova 3, Temple 2 (25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 23-25, 15-8)
Temple dropped a heartbreaking five-set decision at home to Villanova, falling by a 17-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 8-15 final score.
Gem Grimshaw posted a double-double with 16 kills and 20 digs in defeat, and Miray Bolukbasi added 12 kills for Temple. Falanika Danielson chipped in four service aces and 13 digs for the Owls.
Sam Houston 3, Tulane 2 (18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 17-25, 15-9)/Texas Tech 3, Tulane 0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-17)
Tulane fell in two hard-luck results in Birmingham, losing in five frames to Sam Houston (25-18, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 9-15) before being swept by Texas Tech (20-25, 11-25, 17-25).
Chelsea Harvey hit .583 with nine kills, a team-high 42 assists and 10 digs in the Sam Houston match, and Michelle Urquhart added a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs for Tulane. Urquhart paced the Green Wave with 11 kills against Texas Tech.
SEMO 3, Tulsa 1 (25-21, 16-25, 25-17, 25-9)/Tulsa 3, Central Arkansas 0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19)
Tulsa split two matches on the road at SEMO, falling to the hosts in four sets (21-25, 25-16, 17-25, 9-25) before bouncing back with a three-set win over Central Arkansas (25-16, 25-21, 25-19).
Kayley Cassaday closed the SEMO match with 13 kills, five block assists and six digs to guide Tulsa, and Avery Kalsu finished with a team-high 23 digs. Aysu Dalogullari’s 14 kills led the way for the Golden Hurricane in the win over Central Arkansas.
Wichita State 3, South Dakota 2 (25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-13)
Wichita State won a spirited five-set encounter with South Dakota, vaulting to a 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-13 triumph.
Kayce Litzau went for a double-double with 42 assists and 10 digs, and Lily Liekweg added a team-high 28 digs in the Wichita State win. Kalin Newsome narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 18 digs.
