PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (2-3-3, 0-1-0 AAC) topped Drexel (4-3-1, 0-0-0 CAA) in a 3-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon at the Temple Sports Complex. An early Temple advantage spearheaded by Emily Kavanaugh laid the groundwork for the Owls, resulting in their first home win of the season.

Just 16 minutes into play, Hailey Gutowski made her first run of the afternoon down the left wing, beating her defender to get her feet free and send a cross into the box. Forward Emily Kavanaugh was there to receive, knocking the ball into the back of the net for the go-ahead goal.

Gutowksi kept the momentum going, using her speed on the wing again just one minute later. As she approached the box, the junior forward sent a shot towards towards the net, looking to slip one in right under the crossbar. Goalkeeper Miyuki Schoyen was able to get a tip on it, but it was not enough as it bounced in for the 2-0 lead.

The Dragons attempted to answer back with five unanswered shots to close out the first half, but goalkeeper Kamryn Stablein held her ground to keep the Dragons scoreless.

After a back-and-forth battle in the second half, the Owls lengthened the advantage even further in the 71st minute. Carly Steinberg dribbled around her defender, dishing it off to Lexy Endres who rocketed a shot at cage, dinging off the crossbar. Emily Kavanaugh controlled the ricochet, taking a touch before finishing the ball herself for her second goal of the game and the last and final goal of the match.

UCF controlled possession for the rest of the half and broke through for a second goal in the 44th minute when Marta Estupinan put it in the back of the net. They outshot the Hatters (3-5-1) 9-1 in the first half.

It didn't take long after the break for Olsson to score her second of the night when she found the back of the net to make it a 3-0 game.

SMU 1, Oklahoma 0 - Box Score
DALLAS (SMU) – No. 24 SMU defeated Oklahoma, 1-0, for its fourth straight victory by the score, and the Mustangs stretched their overall win streak to five matches, the longest since a 5-0 stretch during the 2017 season.

Wayny Balata scored the goal, her second of the season, in the 59th minute of the match. Courtney Sebazco served a ball into the box that was punched out by the Oklahoma goalkeeper, Nikki Panas. Balata sprinted onto the ball and chipped it over Panas, who was still out for the punch.

"She (Balata) is dynamic. She's got good physical qualities; she's strong, she wins the ball in the air. She's got a lot of things that make a big difference in college soccer," head coach Chris Petrucelli stated.

It was one of just two shots by the Mustangs, while Oklahoma took 14 shots, forcing Tatum Sutherland to make four saves. Sutherland, making her third start of the season, now has four shutouts, including a combined shutout.

James Madison 1, East Carolina 0 (2OT) - Box Score
HARRISONBURG, VA. – A goal with just 29 seconds remaining in the second overtime was the difference as the East Carolina soccer team fell to James Madison 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops ECU to 4-6-0 on the season while James Madison improves to 3-5-1 on the year.

The stats in the first half painted two different pictures. It was James Madison who held 57% of the possession in the opening 45 minutes and the Dukes outshot the Pirates 9-7. However, it was East Carolina who had the most dangerous chances, with the Pirates taking five shots on goal, three of which came from Haley McWhirter, while also getting blocks on six James Madison shots. However, despite three of those shots coming from inside the James Madison penalty area, ECU could not find the opening goal.

In the second half, the Dukes began to turn their possession into dangerous chances. James Madison took eight shots in the second stanza compared to just two for ECU. Maeve English helped keep the game level as she made three saves. Holly Schlagel and Tori Riggs each had shots on goal in the second half, but the game remained scoreless, sending ECU to overtime for the second straight game.

In the second overtime, McWhirter continued on the offensive for the Pirates, taking two shots with Blom making a save on one. But the game-winning goal unfortunately came on the other end. With just 29 seconds remaining, Ebony Wiseman found Ariana Reyes at the ECU six-yard box and Reyes scored on a low shot to send the Dukes home victors.
