ORLANDO, Florida – No. 4 seed Memphis won its second straight American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship with a 1-0 win in overtime over sixth-seeded SMU Sunday afternoon, November 6, at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex.

It was the Tigers’ fourth appearance in the Championship final out of five years and Memphis’ third title (2018, 2021). With the win, the Tigers (9-5-5) earn The American’s automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. The selection show is Monday, November 7 at 4 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

After a scoreless regulation, Shae Taylor scored the breakthrough for the Tigers in the 99th minute. Momo Nakao had a shot saved by SMU goalkeeper Tatum Sutherland, but the rebound went right back to Nakao, who lofted a pass for Taylor to score with her knee. Taylor was named the Championship’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player for the game-winning goal.
