No. 23/20 UCF remained undefeated and took sole possession of the lead in The American with a 4-0 shutout of Memphis in game one of a three-game series in Orlando. The Knights hammered 10 hits and limited the Tigers to just three base knocks on the day.
Johneisha Rowe reached base in three of four plate appearances, driving in a run and scoring a run of her own. Justene Molina went 2-for-3 with an RBI, stolen base and two runs and Denali Schappacher also scored a run for UCF.
Gianna Mancha (14-3) tossed a shutout for the Knights, walking three and striking out six while limiting Memphis to three hits on the day.
South Florida (RV) 7, Wichita State 3
South Florida earned a fourth straight conference victory and knocked Wichita State from the ranks of The American unbeaten with a 7-3 home triumph on Friday night. The Bulls raced out to a 5-0 lead against one of the best offenses in the country and held on from there.
Alexis Johns turned in a 2-for-4 day with three stolen bases and two runs scored leading off for South Florida. Johns has already established a program record for steals in a single season (41). Madison Epperson, Jordyn Kadlub and Alanah Rivera each finished with two RBI apiece for the Bulls. Sydney McKinney scored two runs and Neleigh Herring blasted a solo home run for Wichita State.
Georgina Corrick (26-3) became the South Florida career leader in wins, surpassing Sara Nevins (2011-14) with career victory number 102. Corrick allowed just one earned run on four hits against Wichita State, walking one batter and punching out 14 Shockers on 108 pitches.
Houston 5, East Carolina 0
Houston picked up a fourth straight win and third shutout in four games to open a weekend set at East Carolina, blanking the Pirates 5-0. The Cougars outhit the hosts 9-3 and tallied two runs in the second inning and three in the top of the third frame.
Kati Ray Brown logged two hits, including a two-run home run to open the scoring, to lead Houston in the victory. Aspen Howie added two RBI and five different Cougars scored a run in the game.
Kenna Wilkey (7-5) recorded a three-hit shutout for Houston, walking just one East Carolina batter while striking out seven.
