IRVING, Texas Two of the best players in the American Athletic Conference advanced to the Top 10 Finalists for the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award on May 4, with South Florida senior pitcher Georgina Corrick and Wichita State junior infielder Sydney McKinney among the elite national talent still in contention for the award.

The Top 3 Finalists for the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced on May 18, and the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed prior to the start of the NCAA Women’s College World Series.

Corrick and McKinney are just the fifth and sixth overall selections (second and third among the final 10) from The American as USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year finalists. Corrick was previously one of 26 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award in 2019, joining Lindsay Crowdus from Memphis (top 25 in 2017), Shelby Turnier from UCF (top 10 in 2015) and Sara Nevins from South Florida (top 25 in 2014) as national player of the year finalists representing the conference.

The American ranked second among all conferences with its two finalists, trailing the four players from the Big 12 that included three finalists from defending national champion and current national No. 1 Oklahoma alone. One player each from the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC were also among the final 10 players in the running for the 2022 honor.

Corrick has been dominant in the circle for the Bulls in her final collegiate season, posting a 31-5 record and 0.44 ERA with two saves, three total no-hitters and two perfect games. Corrick has spun 29 complete games, 18 solo shutouts and five combined shutouts as of May 4, striking out a conference record 357 batters while allowing just 27 walks over 238.0 innings pitched. Corrick was the national leader in victories, shutouts and strikeouts as of the latest NCAA DI statistics report.

McKinney was the leader among all hitters in The American with a .490 batting average and sat atop the NCAA standings in hits (77) and runs per game (1.44) as of May 4 to lead Wichita State. In just her third full season of competition for the Shockers, McKinney is already the all-time career hits leader in The American with 254 base knocks entering this weekend’s series with UCF.
