No. 21 UCF Clinches Share Of American Regular-Season Title With Win In Eight At Wichita State

No. 21/19 UCF wrapped up at least a share of the 2022 American regular-season title with a gritty 3-1 win in eight innings at Wichita State to even the series at one game apiece. The winner of Sunday’s series finale will earn the number one seed into the 2022 American Softball Championship.
 
Kennedy Searcy broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning with a two-run single to right field, pushing UCF in front 3-1. Shannon Doherty added a solo home run for the Knights in the second inning to open the game’s scoring. Sydney McKinney went 2-for-4 with a run scored after being driving by Zoe Jones in the third inning.
 
Kama Woodall (16-4) surrendered five hits in eight innings of work, walking three with eight strikeouts to earn the win for UCF. Caitlin Bingham (12-4) took the hard-luck loss for Wichita State with only one earned run allowed over eight innings.
 
South Florida (RV) 9, Memphis 1 (5)
 
South Florida earned the series win at Memphis by way of a 9-1 win in five innings on Saturday. The Bulls ripped 10 hits in the contest and held the Tigers to just two base knocks on the day.
 
Alanah Rivera went 3-for-3 with two RBI a stolen base and two runs scored for South Florida, as Megan Pierro opened the scoring with a three-run double in the top of the first inning. Alexis Johns added her 52nd stolen base of the season and scored two runs.
 
Georgina Corrick (33-5) kept rolling with a two-hit complete game and an unearned run allowed, walking one with 12 strikeouts for South Florida.
 
Tulsa 8, East Carolina 0 (5)
 
Tulsa improved to 2-0 in the weekend home series against East Carolina by way of an 8-0 win in five innings on Saturday. The Golden Hurricane erupted for five runs in the bottom of the second inning to build an early 6-0 advantage.
 
Haley Morgan posted a game-high three RBI with a three-run home run during the second inning. Kylie Norwood added two hits, two RBI and a run for Tulsa, while five other players scored one run each.
 
Makenzie Brown (3-7) took the win with 2.2 innings of shutout relief, allowing four walks and striking out five for Tulsa.
