HOUSTON -- Houston opened American Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 win over South Florida. With the win, the Cougars improved to 4-3-1 (1-0-0 American), while the Bulls fell to 3-5-0 (0-1-0 American).

Janna Singleton opened the scoring 72 minutes into the game, but South Florida scored less than four minutes later to tie on a goal by Signe Markvardsen. The Coogs took the lead again in the 84th minute on a goal by Maddie Bowers.

East Carolina 2, No. 19 SMU 1 - Box Score
DALLAS – The East Carolina soccer team delivered the No. 19 SMU Mustangs their first loss of the season on Thursday evening with a 2-1 win in Washburne Stadium. With the win, the Pirates' streak moves to seven games unbeaten and snaps SMU's streak at seven.

The Mustangs opened up the scoring in the 33rd minute when, after an initial Maeve English diving save, Julissa Cisneros flicked a rebounding chance from the left side of the box into the back of the net. The goal was the first allowed in the run of play by ECU in 611 minutes and 26 seconds.

The Pirates refused to go into the half trailing, though, as in the 41st minute, Isabella Gutiérrez took a pass form Lindsey Aiken about 30 yards out and was in the clear behind SMU's back line. The freshman took the ball the rest of the way herself and put a shot just under the outstretched leg of goalkeeper Tatum Sutherland for the goal. The goal was Gutiérrez's second of the year.

Gutiérrez' goal continues a trend for ECU of not waiting long after conceding a goal to strike back. After giving up scores in the last three contests it has taken the Pirates only 5:00, 10:40 and 7:45, respectively, to even the score.

Three games in a row now, the Pirates have stolen victory from the jaws of a draw and it happened Thursday in the 86th minute. Aiken took the ball down the right side of the pitch, crossed the ball into the box where Sydney Schnell made a miraculous backheel flick to Annabelle Abbott who punched the ball in from point blank range for the game-winning goal.

Tulsa 1, Temple 0 - Box Score
TULSA, Okla. -- Jordan Frederick scored the lone goal to give the Tulsa women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Temple in the American Athletic Conference opener on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 5-3-1 on the season and 1-0 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Owls fell to 0-3-4 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Jordan Frederick picked up a pass, dribbled around a defender, stopped to get a clear shot and drilled the ball from right to left from six yards out into the back of the net for the lone goal of the contest at the 15:38 mark.

Tulsa starts American Athletic Conference play with a win for the first time since a 3-1 victory against East Carolina to begin the 2018 conference season.

UCF 0, Memphis 0 - Box Score
MEMPHIS, TENN. – The UCF women's soccer team (2-2-3, 0-0-1 American) opened American Athletic Conference play with a 0-0 draw against Memphis (4-3-2, 0-0-1 American).

Caroline DeLisle was huge for the Knights, making a season-high seven saves. No save was bigger than her save in the 75th minute where she dove full extension to her left to keep the game knotted at zeros.

DeLisle has been a brick wall in net all season long. Tonight's game marks her third clean sheet of the season and the 21st of her career.

Claire Wyville earned a clean sheet for the Tigers with three saves.
