TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida women's soccer team took down Tulsa, 1-0, in the conference home-opener for the Bulls in front of 876 fans at Corbett Stadium on Thursday night.

South Florida (4-6-0; 1-1-0 American) got its first American Conference win of the season behind a big goal from freshman Daniella Chung, while Tulsa (6-4-1; 1-1-0 American) dropped its first conference match of the year.

Sydney Martinez RecordSenior goalkeeper Sydney Martinez made a huge save late in the match and recorded her 25th career shutout to become the program's all-time leader in shutouts. USF dominated in shots for the game, posting a 20-6 advantage.

USF made a couple of deep forays into the Tulsa box, the closest chance coming when Serita Thurton dribbled to just off the right post before firing a shot stopped by Tulsa goalie Tatum Sanders at the 27-minute mark.

USF got another good look when Signe Markvardsen lobbed a shot from about 25 yards out on the left side that Sanders leaped to deflect just over the cross bar.

Chung gave the Bulls a 1-0 lead at the 70-minute mark of the second half when her shot was deflected, caromed off the cross bar into the ground and then went in the goal for her first career goal at USF.

East Carolina 1, Houston 0 - Box Score
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina soccer team defeated the Houston Cougars 1-0 on Thursday night in Johnson Stadium. Jazmin Ferguson scored the winning goal and ECU earned their fifth shutout of the year.

The goal for Ferguson was the first of her career and came off of a perfectly served corner from Sierra Lowery. Taking the corner from the right side of the pitch, Lowery sent her second assist of the year to the far side of the goal where the freshman defender headed the ball back across and into the upper right corner of the goal.

The game was scoreless through the first half and there were not many chances to speak off. One of the few chances, though, was an Isabella Gutiérrez header from inside the six-yard box which trickled tantalizingly close to the out, left of the goal.

Sydney Schnell had another great chance for the Pirates, hers coming in the second half when she cut in from the right side of the pitch and fired from close to 25 yards out. Schnell's shot curled in, looking nearly perfect until it went only slightly wide of the upper left corner of the goal.

Part of the reason there were not many chances to score throughout the game was the tremendous effort of the ECU defensive back line. In addition to Ferguson's goal, she contributed a header on yet another team save - the third time she has made such an effort on the season and one that does not show up in the box score.

Junior goalkeeper Maeve English is once again credited with the win and the clean sheet. With five shutouts on the year, English has set a new career high in the category.

No. 21 SMU 1, Temple 0 - Box Score
PHILADELPHIA – No. 21 SMU got a goal from Alina Khan in the 13th minute, and went on to a 1-0 win over Temple at the Temple Sports Complex on Thursday.

Khan scored her first goal of the season in the 13th minute of the match. Sammy Nieves shot went right at Temple goalkeeper Kyla Burns, but Khan got to the ball first and redirected it into the center of the goal. Khan became the eighth Mustang (6-1-3, 1-1 American) to score this season. It was a team-leading fourth assist of the season for Nieves.

Samantha Estrada made four saves in the game, including a critical one on a shot by Temple's Carly Steinberg in the 54th minute.

The Mustangs put six of nine shots on goal in the game as no one from SMU had more than one shot in the match. Temple (0-4-4, 0-2) managed five shots, with four on goal.

It was the second straight shutout for SMU, following up a 1-0 win over Baylor on Sunday. It is the fifth shutout of the season for the Mustangs as Estrada recorded her second solo shutout of the year.

CINCINNATI – Lauren Bastian notched a late equalizing goal in the 83rd minute as the University of Cincinnati women's soccer team opened conference play with a 2-2 draw against Memphis at Gettler Stadium on Thursday night.

Cincinnati continued to attack right out of the half as the Bearcats were able to even the match when Megan Smith found herself on the receiving end of a set piece from Ashley Barron. Smith located the ball inside the goal area, chipping it over the goalkeeper for her third goal of the season in the 60th minute.

Memphis quickly took the lead back when Mya Jones scored her third goal of the year two minutes later in the 62nd minute for the 2-1 lead before the Bearcats' late equalizing goal.
