LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Temple women's soccer (0-2-3) recorded a draw against Rider (3-1-1) on Saturday evening in a back-and-forth battle.

A 7-save performance by Kyla Burns proved to be enough to keep the Broncs scoreless and end the match in a deadlock.

Sunday, September 4
South Florida 1, UTSA 0 - Box Score
TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 4, 2022 – A set piece goal with three minutes and 13 seconds remaining earned the University of South Florida women's soccer team its second win of the season. The 1-0 final score against UTSA also tied Sydney Martinez for the program's career shutouts record.

After a lengthy defensive battle that nearly extended the entire 90 minutes, Brown sealed the game for South Florida (2-3-0) in the 87th minute. Vivianne Bessette sent a free kick into the box that found Brown's head and angled into the net to give USF the lead.

The win marked Martinez's 24th career shutout and first of the season, tying her with Kat Elliott (2014-17) for the team's career lead.

After controlling possession for nearly 75 percent of the first half, South Florida found itself still tied with UTSA at the break, despite outshooting the Roadrunners, 6-2, in the opening 45 minutes.

Out of the break, the Bulls continued its dominance in the possession battle and extended its shot advantage to 11-4 entering the game's final five minutes. After a UTSA foul near midfield, Bessette sent the free kick opportunity into a crowded box, and Brown headed the ball over the defensive line and into the net to seal the win for South Florida.

Houston 3, Rice 1 - Box Score
HOUSTON – Midfielder Cordelia Cross opened up the way for the University of Houston Soccer program which used a 3-1 victory to notch the first home victory of the season Sunday evening against Rice at the Carl Lewis International Complex.

The Cougars (2-2-1) got on the board against their crosstown rival at the 34th minute with a goal as Cross blasted the ball from a few feet past the midfield line into the top corner of the goal giving Houston the 1-0 lead.

Rice's (2-4) lone goal of the match was scored by goalkeeper Bella Killgore in the 44th minute after a Cougar foul just inside the 18-yard box which awarded Rice a penalty kick.

The Cougars continued to knock on Killgore's door in the second half and found a breakthrough in the 54th minute with forward Nadia Kamassah scoring her first goal of the season, assisted by midfielder Madison Dichiara.

Houston added another tally in the 62nd minute to seal the victory when defender Emma Clarke tapped in a score off a corner kick, assisted by midfielder Samanatha Wiehe.

Goalkeeper Haley Woodward picked up her second win of the season, recording six saves against the Owls.

East Carolina 0, VCU 0 - Box Score
RICHMOND, Va. – The East Carolina soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against the VCU Rams on Sunday. The game extended the Pirates unbeaten streak to four games, all without giving up a goal.

Maeve English was stellar once again, controlling things in goal for ECU and making four more saves. The clean sheet was the fourth straight for her on the season and the 10th on her career.

Despite the lack of scoring, the Pirates did have some chances. Catherine Holbrook and Sydney Schnell had perhaps the best chances. Holbrook's opportunity came inside the 18 in the first half when she powered a shot to the left half of the goal before VCU keeper Whitney Horton made a diving stop.

Schnell once again nearly found the net with a chance in the second half. Attacking from the right side, the junior forward got behind Horton and had a clean look at the goal. But for a team save made by a VCU defender, Schnell would have had a winner. The possession wasn't over, though, as Holbrook got another chance, but this time narrowly missed the upper left of the frame for a Rams goal kick.

It was a back-and-forth affair with the two teams trading possession and scoring chances but time and again the defenses holding firm.

No. 15 SMU 1, Oklahoma 1 - Box Score
NORMAN, Okla. - No. 15 SMU and Oklahoma played to a 1-1 tie at John Crain Field on Sunday. The Mustangs (3-0-2) are undefeated through the first five matches for the first time since 2017.

Jewel Boland put the Mustangs on the board in the 27th minute as she outraced the Sooners' defense and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Makinzie Short. The opportunity came off a boot from goalkeeper Samantha Estrada that was redirected by the OU defense before the speeding Boland got to it first. It was Boland's first goal of the season.

Emma Hawkins scored for Oklahoma (1-2-2) to even the match at 1-1 in the 62nd minute. Hawkins headed the ball into the upper center of the goal from inside the six-yard box.

Samantha Estrada had five saves for the Mustangs.

Pitt 2, Cincinnati 0 - Box Score
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team fell to Pittsburgh 2-0 in a battle of unbeaten teams on Sunday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field. With the loss, Cincinnati (3-1-2, 0-0-0 American) drops its first match of the season.

Pittsburgh held the advantage in shots and corner kicks at the break, but Anna Rexford recorded four first half saves as the two teams went into the locker room scoreless. Cincinnati has still not allowed a goal in the first half through six matches.

The first goal of the match came in the 61st minute when Panthers' Samiah Phiri found Leah Pais from near the goal area and Pais lifted one over the outstretched arms of Rexford for her first goal of the season to take the 1-0 lead. Pittsburgh added insurance three minutes later when Keera Melenhorst played a ball that found Pais once again, who placed a shot in the back of the net to record the brace and extend the lead that would be maintained for the remainder of the match.

Despite surrendering two goals on Sunday, the Bearcats are outscoring opponents 10 to four through the opening portion of the season. The four goals allowed through six matches are the lowest since 2017. Rexford posted a season-high five saves on the afternoon, increasing her total to 15 on the season.

Creighton 2, Tulsa 0 - Box Score
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Tulsa women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Creighton on Sunday afternoon at Morrison Stadium.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 3-2-1 on the season, while the Bluejays moved to 3-0-3 overall.

Juelle Love put the Bluejays on the board with just 41-seconds ticked off the clock and then Hanna Luke added a two-goal cushion in the 20th minute.  Neither team found the back of the net in the next 70 minutes off the clock for the final 2-0 score.

Creighton had an 18-4 lead in shots, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.

No. 13 Ole Miss 2, UCF 1 - Box Score
ORLANDO – The UCF Women's soccer team fought hard against the no. 13 Ole Miss Rebels, but fell 2-1 on Sunday night at the UCF Soccer Complex.

Both teams found little momentum in the opening 15 minutes, as each tried to find some domination in the midfield. Though after sustained pressure, Ole Miss found the back of the net in the 18th minute on an Aubrey Mister goal just outside the six-yard box.

Moments later, both teams were sent back to the locker rooms as lightning entered the area. After an hour delay, the Rebels netted their second on a header by Mo O'Connor.

Just over one minute into the second half, the Knights got a goal back. Katie Bradley played Dayana Martin down the line, who got past her defender and played a perfect cross that found Anna Henderson who calmly placed it in the back of the net.
