Wichita State 3, Texas State 2 – Box Score
Wichita State picked up two wins on opening day of the Texas State Tournament with a 12-1 win over Villanova and a 3-2 victory over Texas State in the finale Friday afternoon.
 
Lauren Lucas was stellar at the plate, going 6-for-8 in the two games with two doubles, a home run and six RBI. Sydney McKinney racked up five hits between the two games, while Addison Barnard and Lauren Mills each had three. Zoe Jones drove in three runs behind a double and home run.
 
Houston 5, South Dakota State 4 (9) – Box Score
Houston 9, Lamar 1 (5) – Box Score
Houston came from behind to earn a 5-4, extra-innings victory over 2022 NCAA Tournament team South Dakota State in game one, then used the momentum to roll to a 9-1, run rule win in five innings against Lamar in game two.
 
Britaney Shaw played the hero against South Dakota State to start the day, driving home a pair of runs to cut into the deficit in the fifth followed by a walk-off hit in the ninth for three RBIs in the game. Shaw would finish the day with five RBIs and three hits.
 
UCF 7, UMass 1 – Box Score
UCF 9, Boise State 8 – Box Score
UCF went 2-0 on Friday against UMass and Boise State. The Knights handled business against UMass before using a 7th inning walk off two-run home run against Boise State to secure the win, 9-8.
 
Kaitlyn Felton earned the win in both games. She tossed a complete game with 13 strikeouts against UMass, allowing just hit and one unearned run. She tossed the final one-third inning against Boise State. Chloe Evans served as the hero in the bottom of the seventh, connecting on a two-run home run to lift the Knights to victory.
 
East Carolina 3, Purdue Fort Wayne 0 – Box Score
Virginia Tech 4, East Carolina 2 – Box Score
The East Carolina softball team split its two games on Friday afternoon in the UNCW Tournament at Boseman Field, first shutting out Purdue Fort Wayne 3-0 and then falling short against No. 11 Virginia Tech 4-2.
 
Addy Bullis (1-0) recorded a complete game shutout, becoming the first Pirate since Taylor Smith did so against College of Charleston on Mar. 20, 2022. Bullis only allowed three hits and recorded the most strikeouts she's had in a Pirate uniform with eight in seven innings. Alyson Quinlan (0-1) gave up five hits and three earned runs in six innings for the Mastodons.
 
NIU 5, Memphis 4 – Box Score
CSUN 5, Memphis 0 – Box Score
The University of Memphis softball team opened the 2023 season today against Northern Illinois and CSU Northridge in the SDSU Season Kickoff. The Tigers fell to NIU, 5-4, and 5-0 to CSUN.
 
Taylor Smrt and Linsey Hargis drove in a combined three runs at the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to two against NIU. Hallie Siems got her first start of the season and recorded seven strikeouts.
 
Texas Tech 8, Tulsa 3 – Box Score
The Golden Hurricane jumped out to an early lead, but it was not enough as the Tulsa softball team fell to the Red Raiders 8-3 in the season opener at the Maverick Invitational.
 
Sophomore Kailyn Bearpaw led the way offensively for the Golden Hurricane, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Imani Edwards batted 2-for-4 with a triple and Haley Morgan had a pair of hits, coming around to score twice. Celeste Wood, Tulsa's RBI leader last season, recorded a double and brought in a run.
 
Boston College 4, South Florida 2 – Box Score
Boston University 8, South Florida 0 – Box Score
The University of South Florida softball team fell to the Boston College Eagles, 4-2, and the Boston University Terriers, 8-0, on the second day of the USF-Rawlings Tournament.
 
Emma Humplik and Lydia Castro led the Bulls with two hits each, both against Boston College. The Bulls pitching staff totaled 10 strikeouts in the two games.
