The East Carolina softball team got off to a strong start at the Battle at the Beach tournament in Conway, S.C., defeating Drexel 4-1 and Colgate 6-2 on Friday afternoon at St. John Stadium.
 
Addy Bullis (2-0) only gave up two hits and one run in 6.1 innings pitched and struck out three Dragons. Payton Hudson recorded two strikeouts in 0.2 innings pitched. Lindsay Nelson (0-1) allowed four hits and four runs in five innings in the circle. Jordan Hatch (3-1) picked up her third win of the season for the Pirates in the win over Colgate, tossing six strikeouts in six innings.

Boise State 8, Wichita State 0 – Box Score
Wichita State lost by one run to San Diego State on Thursday, 3-2 in San Diego. The Shockers defeated Utah Tech, 2-0, but was run-ruled in the second game of the Torero Classic Friday afternoon vs. Boise State, 8-0.
 
Lauren Howell (2-1) picked up her second win in the circle behind a career-high seven strikeouts in the complete game shutout over Utah Tech. She allowed only four hits and one walk.
 
Sydney McKinney extended her hit streak to 26 with a triple and two walks. Mills and Hood recorded the only other hits in the game.

Maura Moore and Kylee Nash both threw fantastic games from the circle for the University of Tulsa softball team as the Golden Hurricane split its matchups on Friday at the Golden Eagle Invitational.
 
Tulsa (2-5) defeated SIU-Edwardsville (0-4) in the morning game 8-0 in six innings. The Hurricane fell 1-0 to Jacksonville State (4-1) in a pitcher's duel.
 
Moore (2-1) went the distance with a one-hit shutout to lead TU over the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars in the early game. Moore walked one and struck out four Cougars in the win. It took her just 78 pitches to grab the win. 
 
Memphis 2, Bethune Cookman 1 – Box Score
Jacksonville 6, Memphis 2– Box Score
The Memphis softball team recorded their first win of the season as they split day one of the JU/UNF Invitational. The Tigers defeated Bethune-Cookman, 2-1, in game one before falling to Jacksonville University, 6-2. The Tigers move to 1-5 on the season.
 
The Tigers got the first win of the season after Zoe Adebayo reached on an error in the top of the sixth, leading to Meagan Chism crossing home and putting the Tigers up by one on the play.
 
UCF 8, Michigan 2 – Box Score
Texas A&M 7, UCF 0 – Box Score
The UCF Knight softball team split Friday action at the Clearwater Invitational, defeating Michigan 8-2, before falling to Texas A&M 7-0. UCF is now 4-3 on the young season.
 
Sarah Willis earned the start for the Knights, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing one run off four hits and striking out three batters. Angelina DeVoe (2-1) got the win, tossing the final 3.2 innings, allowing just one run. The Knights managed to hit four home runs in the game to lead the Knights to victory.
 
 
Washington 6, Houston 3 – Box Score
Houston 5, Morgan State 0 – Box Score
The University of Houston softball team opened the Houston Classic by splitting a doubleheader, falling late to #12/14 Washington, 6-3, before rallying to defeat Morgan State, 5-0 on Friday from the Cougar Softball Complex.
 
Junior Taylor Edwards spun her first career complete-game shutout for Houston (4-3) in Game 2, earning her second win of the season. The Marrero, La., native tossed a two-hitter while striking out seven and only allowing one walk.
 
Duke 5, South Florida 2 – Box Score
The University of South Florida softball team fell to the No. 16/19 Duke Blue Devils, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational.
 
Senior pitcher Gabriella Nori earned her third start of the season. She pitched two innings, struck out just as many batters, and allowed one run. Kathy Garcia Soto scored all both runs for the Bulls.
 
The Blue Devils used scores in the second, fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-0 lead before South Florida answered with two runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
