Houston's Wilkey, Wichita State's Jones Claim Softball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, March 26.
 
Player of the Week
Zoe Jones, Sr., INF, Wichita State
Jones was instrumental in the Shockers opening series win over UCF in Orlando. The senior infielder slashed .462/.533/1.000 and drove in seven runs, while scoring another six times. She had at least one hit in every game against UCF and was responsible for seven runs scored in the Shockers 10-5 win to secure the series victory on Sunday.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Kenna Wilkey, Gr., RHP, Houston
Wilkey had a masterful outing to open conference play, starting all three games for the Cougars sweep of Memphis. Wilkey tossed 17 innings over the course of three games, striking out 17 batters against just two walks. She secured the series win with a complete-game shutout, tossing seven innings and striking out seven batters.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Sarah Willis, Jr., RHP/OF, UCF
Willis through a complete game to open the weekend against No. 22 Wichita State, allowing one run over seven innings to lead the Knights to the win.
 
Bree Cantu, Sr., UTL, Houston
Cantu slashed .700/.727/.900 against Memphis, finishing each game with at least one hit and one RBI.
 
Gabriella Nori, Sr., LHP, South Florida
Nori earned two starts for the Bulls, finishing with a 0.50 ERA in the two wins against East Carolina. She struck out 7 batters in 14 innings.
 
Megan Pierro, Sr., INF, South Florida
Pierro hit an even .500 on the weekend, driving in three runs and scoring an additional three times to help the Bulls to a series win over East Carolina.
 
Lauren Howell, Jr., RHP, Wichita State
Howell tossed a complete-game shutout over UCF to even the series against the Knights, striking out three batters in seven innings.
