South Florida 2, Army 0 – Box Score
TAMPA – Left-hander Payton Dixon set a new career high nine strike outs in the University of South Florida softball team's 2-0 win on Monday night.
In her ninth career start, Dixon quickly settled in the game, striking out the first two batters she faced. Army wouldn't get a hit until the third inning.
Dixon and Army's Oliva Farris went into a pitching duel, neither allowing more than one hit through the first three innings.
Marissa Trivelpiece started the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple over the center fielder's head. A single from Alyssa Rano hit a single that bounced off the pitcher's glove, allowed Trivelpiece to score.
Meghan Sheehan doubled to left field in the sixth inning. She advanced on Rano's second hit of the night. Camille Ortiz-Martinez brought Sheehan home on a sacrifice fly.
