GREENVILLE, N.C. – Jayci Chamberlain recorded two hits including a crucial sixth-inning home run as East Carolina rallied to defeat Memphis 4-2 in conference play on Friday evening at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

The win snapped a three-game skid for the Pirates (24-19, 2-8 The American) while the Tigers (7-33, 1-9 The American) dropped their fourth in last five games.

Memphis controlled the game early and had the momentum capped off by a homer from Madi Berner to put Memphis ahead 2-0 in the top of the fourth while holding the Pirates to no hits up to that point. ECU would get things going in the bottom of the fourth, recording three hits and plating a run after a Chamberlain RBI single scored Anna Sawyer to trim the deficit to 2-1.

Some Memphis miscues in the bottom of the fifth would allow the Pirates to take the momentum after Mackenzie Kila advanced over to third on an error and eventually score on a Tiger error. Jocelyn Alonso would hit a sacrifice fly to bring Taylor Edwards home to give ECU its first lead at 3-2.

Chamberlain would put the game away for ECU with her two RBI blast to center field and the Pirates would keep Memphis out of scoring position to secure the win.

Jordan Hatch (10-8) entered the game in the fifth and allowed no hits or runs in 2.2 innings of work for the win while Rylee Dugar (2-14) surrendered seven hits and four runs in the loss.

UCF 8, Tulsa 1 – Box Score
TULSA – The (RV) UCF Knights softball team defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in conference play on Friday night, 8-1 to improve to 26-18 overall and 5-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The Golden Hurricane fall to 16-22 overall and 2-5 in The American.

Sarah Willis (W, 10-3) started in the circle for the Knights, allowing just one run across 6.0 innings pitched. She struck out eight batters and walked just one. Angelina DeVoe tossed the final inning, allowing one hit and now runs with two strikeouts.

Chloe Evans had a monster performance, batting 2-for-4 at the plate with one home runs and four RBI. Savannah Adams and Johneisha Rowe both finished with one run batted in.

Tulsa took an early first inning lead as Haley Morgan scored on a throwing error. Evans erased the deficit for the knights in the third inning with a two-run home run.

Two more runs in the fifth inning would give the Knights some breathing room before UCF exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend their advantage to 8-1.

Wichita State 8, Houston 7 (11 inn.) – Box Score
WICHITA – The No. 20 Wichita State softball team survived in extra innings against the Houston Cougars on Friday night, 8-7, needing eleven innings to secure the win. The Shockers improve to 35-7 on the season and 9-1 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Cougars fall to 18-20 overall and 5-2 in The American.

Alex Aguilar started in the circle for the Shockers, earning a no-decision in 4.0 innings pitched. She allowed three runs off eight hits with one strikeout. Allison Cooper (W, 11-3) earning the victory, tossing 7 innings in relief effort. She allowed four runs off five hits with four strikeouts.

The Shockers finished with 13 hits in the game, led by Taylor Sedlacek’s 3-for-5 outing at the plate. Lauren Lucas was the hero of the night, knocking in four RBI including the walk-off in the 11th inning.

The Shockers shot out to an early 5-0 lead thanks to a five-run third inning, but that lead was quickly erased as the Cougars tied the game in the fifth inning, scoring five combined runs over the next two innings.

Both teams would score one run in the 10th inning, with the Cougars preventing the game-winning run from scoring using a run-down for the final out at home plate.

An inning later, Lauren Lucas would hit a sacrifice fly into foul territory, allowing Sydney McKinney to tag up at third base and score the game winning run.
