UCF's Willis, South Florida's Ponn Claim Softball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, April 30.
 
Player of the Week
Vivian Ponn, Sr., UTL/RHP, South Florida
Ponn helped guide the Bulls to a sweep over Memphis, slashing .714/.750/1.571 over three games. Ponn recorded a hit in every game and had an RBI in every game. She finished with five RBI and two runs scored. Ponn also made an appearance in the circle for each game, tossing 4.1 shutout, hitless innings of relief pitching over the course of three games.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Sarah Willis, Sr., LHP, UCF
Willis was perfect in the opening series game against Houston, tossing the fifth perfect game in American Athletic Conference history and the third in UCF history, needing only 78 pitches to earn the feat. She followed up with a complete game shutout in the series finale, allowing just two hits in the win. She finished the week with a perfect 0.00 ERA while limiting opposing hitters to a .047 batting average.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Kennedy Searcy, Jr., UTL, UCF
Searcy recorded a hit in every game in the sweep of Houston, including going 6-for-7 with three runs and two RBI in the first two games of the series.
 
Bailee Wilson, Sr., INF, East Carolina
Wilson went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI in the Pirates 4-1 win over NC State.
 
Gabriella Nori, Sr., LHP, South Florida
Nori held a perfect 0.00 ERA through 10.1 innings in the circle for the Bulls, finishing with two wins and six strikeouts in two games.
 
Lauren Howell, Jr., RHP, Wichita State
Howell helped guide the Shockers to a pair of wins to clinch The American regular season title. She held a 1.75 ERA through eight innings.
 
Sydney McKinney, Sr., SS, Wichita State
McKinney slashed .700/.750/.800 in the series sweep over Tulsa to help the Shockers claim The American regular season title outright. She scored six runs and drove in two RBI.
