BOCA RATON, Fla. — Caden Veltkamp threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns, while Kaden Shields-Dutton ran for three more scores as Florida Atlantic rolled past UAB 53–33 on Saturday night at Flagler Credit Union Standing to move back to .500 and strengthen its standing in the American Conference .
Florida Atlantic (3-3, 2-1 American) overwhelmed UAB (2-4, 0-3) early, scoring on its first four possessions to open a 28-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Shields-Dutton’s 13-yard touchdown run set the tone, followed by his 2-yard score and a 48-yard touchdown pass from Easton Messer to Jayshon Platt that made it 21-0 after one quarter .
Veltkamp took over from there, hitting Jabari Smith Jr. for a 37-yard strike early in the second quarter and later connecting with Dom Henry from 43 yards out to give the Owls a 35-14 halftime cushion. Platt (two catches, 74 yards), Henry (50 yards) and Asaad Waseem (seven catches, 105 yards) provided big-play targets in a balanced attack that piled up 492 total yards on just 64 snaps .
Shields-Dutton added a one-yard score early in the third quarter to complete his three-touchdown night. Veltkamp’s third TD pass — a 29-yard connection to Waseem — pushed the margin to 50-22 late in the period, sealing the Owls’ most productive offensive outing of the season .
UAB refused to fold, cutting into the deficit with a pair of third-quarter drives. Solomon Beebe capped a 14-play, 77-yard march with a 14-yard touchdown run and added another from 13 yards out on the next possession after a Devin Hightower interception set up a short field. Beebe finished with 97 total yards (34 rushing, 63 receiving) and two rushing TDs . Quarterback Jalen Kitna threw for 261 yards and a touchdown — a three-yard toss to Isaiah Jacobs — but was sacked five times as the Blazers struggled to protect him. Jacobs and Nate Rogers each added short scoring runs.
Despite holding the ball for more than 35 minutes, UAB couldn’t slow FAU’s quick-strike offense. The Owls averaged 7.7 yards per play, converted 4 of 5 fourth-down tries and scored on 8 of 10 possessions that crossed midfield. Defensively, linebacker Tyler Stolsky led FAU with 13 tackles, while CJ Doggette Jr. recorded two of the team’s five sacks.
