IRVING, Texas – Memphis sophomore Loenie Moeller and Tulsa senior Maria Berlanga Bandera have been chosen as the 2025 American Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Players of the Year by the league’s head coaches.
Tulane’s Campbell Ricci was named as The American’s Freshman of the Year. Memphis head coach Hayden Perez was chosen by his counterparts as The American Coach of the Year.
A native of Nordhorn, Germany, Moeller is the first Memphis player to be named as The American’s Player of the Year. She amassed a 27-13 record in singles in the 2024-25 season, including four consecutive wins in the American Women’s Tennis Championship to lead Memphis to the tournament title. Moeller is ranked No. 105 by the ITA in singles entering the 2025 NCAA Championship and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the American Championship.
Berlanga Bandera, who hails from Malaga, Spain, becomes the fifth Tulsa player to earn Player of the Year honors in The American. Berlanga Bandera went 26-8 in singles play and 21-8 in doubles in 2024-25 and is ranked No. 86 by the ITA in singles and No. 46 in doubles. She helped Tulsa to a runner-up finish at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Ricci is the second Tulane player to be named as The American’s Freshman of the Year, joining Ivone Alvaro (2017). A native of Las Vegas, Ricci went 20-7 in singles play and was 15-3 in spring dual matches, playing exclusively at the No. 1 position.
Perez earned American Coach of the Year honors for the second time after he led Memphis to its second American Athletic Conference title. Seeded No. 6 in the 13-team conference tournament, the Tigers won four matches in four days, capped by a 4-2 win against Tulsa in the final.
Moeller, Berlanga Bandera and Ricci were among the 14 players named to the 2025 all-conference team. Florida Atlantic, which went 16-1 in the regular season, placed a league-leading three players on the all-conference team, while Charlotte, Memphis, Rice, Tulsa and Wichita State had two players each selected.
