TAMPA, Fla. — Byrum Brown threw four touchdown passes and South Florida scored three different ways in a dominant third quarter, rolling past South Carolina State 63-14 on Saturday at Raymond James Stadium.
Brown hit Jonathan Echols from 22 yards and Jackson Porter from 26 in the first half as the Bulls (3-1) took a 21-7 lead into the break. He then connected twice with Chas Nimrod in the third quarter — on strikes of 42 and 22 yards — as part of a 35-point eruption that put the game out of reach .
The defense and special teams joined the onslaught. Mac Harris returned an interception 93 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, while Aaron Mosley scooped up a blocked punt for a 4-yard score. Nay’Quan Davenport added a 43-yard touchdown run and Sean Franklin broke free for scoring runs of 30 and 54 yards, finishing with 91 yards on just four carries .
South Carolina State (2-2) managed 305 total yards and got touchdowns from Kacy Fields on a 1-yard plunge late in the first half and Jaylen Milligan’s 17-yard run in the fourth. Bulldog quarterbacks combined for 235 passing yards but were sacked five times and intercepted once .
South Florida piled up 504 yards on just 54 plays, averaging 9.3 yards per snap, and scored 10 total touchdowns while controlling momentum despite holding the ball for under 17 minutes.
