ATLANTA — Haynes King accounted for three first-half touchdowns and Georgia Tech raced to a big early lead on its way to a 45-24 win against Temple on Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
King opened the scoring with a 17-yard run before connecting with Malik Rutherford (24 yards) and Isiah Canion (37) for first-quarter touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets (4-0, 1-0 ACC) jumped ahead 21-0. King finished 13 of 18 for 161 yards through the air and added 15 yards rushing.
Malachi Hosley carried five times for 59 yards and two scores, and Dontae Gordon added a 47-yard touchdown burst in the fourth. Georgia Tech rolled up 307 rushing yards and averaged nearly 10 yards per play overall .
Temple (2-2) closed within a touchdown early in the third on Evan Simon’s 28-yard strike to Jojo Bermudez, but Hosley answered on the next drive. Simon went 13 of 32 for 127 yards and a TD, while Jay Ducker ran for 76 yards and a score. Quarterback Gevani McCoy added a late 4-yard TD pass to Xavier Irvin .
The Owls controlled possession for more than 37 minutes but couldn’t slow the Jackets’ explosiveness, surrendering four touchdown plays of 24 yards or longer.
