Tulane Takes Road Win At Tulsa, 31-14

TULSA, Okla. — Javin Gordon ran for three touchdowns and Jake Retzlaff added an 8-yard scoring keeper as Tulane beat Tulsa 31–14 on Saturday at H.A. Chapman Stadium in the American Conference opener for the Green Wave. 

Gordon scored on runs of 12, 25 and 4 yards, the last capping a 13-play, 69-yard third-quarter drive that made it 31–14. Retzlaff’s TD opened the scoring, and Patrick Durkin added a 28-yard field goal just before halftime. 

Tulane (4–1, 1–0) finished with 437 yards — 185 rushing and 252 passing — held the ball for 34:59, and converted 8 of 18 on third down while going 4-for-4 in the red zone. Retzlaff was 17 of 30 for 242 yards; Omari Hayes (4 for 89) and Shazz Preston (5 for 54) led the receivers.     

Tulsa (2–3, 0–2) drew level in the second quarter on Baylor Hayes’ 72-yard touchdown to Brody Foley, but mustered only 92 rushing yards against a swarming Tulane front. Hayes finished 18 of 36 for 245 yards with one TD and one interception.     

Defensively, Tulane logged six sacks and 13 tackles for loss; Santana Hopper had 1.5 sacks and 4.0 TFL, and Jahiem Johnson made the lone interception (15-yard return).
