GREENVILLE, N.C. — Katin Houser threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns, and East Carolina scored on its first two possessions on the way to a 56-3 rout of Campbell on Saturday night at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Houser opened the scoring with an 18-yard strike to Desirrio Riles and later found Brock Spalding on a 55-yard touchdown as the Pirates (1-1) rolled up 535 yards of total offense. Chaston Ditta added an 11-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
The ground game was equally effective, producing five rushing scores. London Montgomery ran for two short touchdowns, while Marlon Gunn Jr., Pop Jenkins, and Dakota Lacy each added one. ECU averaged 4.6 yards per carry and converted 13 of 17 third downs.
Campbell (0-2) managed just 4 rushing yards on 27 attempts and was outgained 535-151. Quarterback Kamden Sixkiller threw for 121 yards, but the Camels’ only points came on Alex Crabb’s 29-yard field goal in the second quarter.
The Pirates led 35-3 at halftime and were never threatened. Defensively, ECU recorded nine tackles for loss and forced two fumbles. Linebacker Ryan Reason had 2.5 tackles for loss, and Jayden Robinson added a sack and a forced fumble.
Spalding led all receivers with 81 yards on three catches, while Yannick Smith had 67 receiving yards. Alex Conrad hit all five extra points before Nicholas Perez added three in relief.
East Carolina improved to 8-0 all-time against FCS opponents at home.
