ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Blake Horvath ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, and Navy pulled away in the second half for a 38-24 win over UAB on Saturday in the American Conference opener for both teams.
Horvath scored from a yard out on the opening drive, added a 4-yard keeper in the third quarter, and hit Luke Hutchison on a 63-yard strike in the second. He finished with 168 yards passing and 72 rushing. Alex Tecza rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown, while Eli Heidenreich added 67 yards on the ground with a 9-yard scoring run.
The Midshipmen (2-0, 1-0 American) outrushed UAB 295-92 and closed the game with 14 unanswered points. The victory also marked Navy’s 74th consecutive home win when leading after three quarters — the longest active streak in FBS football.
Jalen Kitna threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns for the Blazers (1-1, 0-1), finding Iverson Hooks for a 51-yard score and Corri Milliner for 25. Jevon Jackson added a 12-yard touchdown run as UAB led briefly in the second quarter. But the Blazers were shut out after halftime, hampered by two interceptions and a missed field goal.
Navy’s defense sealed it with second-half takeaways and steady pressure. Linebacker Landon Robinson had 10 tackles, while Giusseppe Sessi and Phillip Hamilton each forced turnovers. Nathan Kirkwood kicked a 27-yard field goal just before halftime, giving Navy the lead for good.
The Midshipmen totaled 463 yards on 59 plays and were 5-for-5 in the red zone.
