IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, January 18.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Markel Jones, Jr., South Florida
Jones earned a podium finish at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, running a 7.71 second 60-meter hurdle – the 12
th fastest time in the nation this season.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Payton Pitts, So., South Florida
Pitts finished in second place in pole vault at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, clearing 5.15 meters – the 42
nd best vault in the country.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Kelly Ufodiama, So., East Carolina
Ufodiama set a new American Conference record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.14 seconds. It is also the fastest time in the nation this season.
Women’s Field Athletes of the Week
Alliyah McNeil, Sr., North Texas
McNeil had two Top 25 national performances – recording the 18
th best high jump, clearing 1.80 meters and the 21
st best long jump with a distance of 6.22 meters.
