Tulsa Earns Dramatic Win To Cap Quarterfinal Round Of American Men’s Tennis Championship

TULSA, Okla. – Higher seeds Rice, South Florida and Charlotte advanced in earlier action before host Tulsa completed a dramatic upset in the final match of quarterfinal action at the 2026 American Conference Men’s Tennis Championship at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

No. 1 Rice raced past No. 9 Tulane 4-1 to open the day, and No. 4 South Florida swept No. 5 Wichita State 4-0. No. 2 Charlotte bested No. 7 Florida Atlantic 4-1 before No. 6 Tulsa outlasted No. 3 Memphis 4-3 in a match that went down to the decisive point of a tiebreaker.

Rice 4, Tulane 1 (Box Score)

Top-seeded Rice got off to a successful start in the 2026 conference tournament with a 4-1 victory over No. 9 Tulane. The Owls picked up the doubles point to kick off the match thanks to wins by Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro (6-4) at the first singles court and Rafael Botran and Tommy Czaplinski (6-3) at the number three court.

Navarro and Botran added singles wins for Rice in the team victory. Navarro captured a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the second court and Botran earned a 6-2, 6-3 sweep at third singles.

Tulane’s Daniel Phillips recorded a scoring performance for the Green Wave at top singles, sweeping past Rice’s Kuzmenok 6-1, 6-2.
 
 
 
South Florida 4, Wichita State 0 (Box Score)
Records: South Florida (11-13), Wichita State (13-10)

No. 4 South Florida blanked No. 5 Wichita State 4-0 in the opening tournament match for both teams in the quarterfinal round. The Bulls picked up doubles wins at the second court from Ettore Danesi and Gughi Verdese and Hugo Car and Timeo Gaillard at the third court by matching 6-3 scores. Wichita State’s top doubles team of Pablo Roche Alcaya and Zaid Al Mashni were victorious at the first court with a 6-1 win.

Car completed a double by winning in straight sets at number one singles by a 6-2. 6-3. Other USF singles winners were Stepan Mruzek at the third court by a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 score and Toto Llanes earning a 6-1, 7-5 sweep in the sixth singles position.
 
 
 
Charlotte 4, Florida Atlantic 1 (Box Score

No. 2 seed Charlotte secured a 4-1 win over No. 7 Florida Atlantic to begin American tournament play on Friday. The 49ers earned the doubles point and took three of the four completed singles matches.

Ivan Dreycopp and Vasco Prata won 6-4 at first doubles and Andres Medus and Emilio Sanchez Bronzetti clinched the point with a 7-5 victory at the second court. Prata contributed a win at number one singles by a 6-1, 6-4 final score, Dreycopp picked up a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at two singles and Medus clinched the match at the third singles position 3-6, 6-2, 6-2

Lucca Pignaton downed Sanchez Bronzetti for the lone FAU point of the contest, 6-4, 6-3 at the number six court.
 
 
 
Tulsa 4, Memphis 3 (Box Score)
Records: Tulsa (17-12), Memphis (12-12)

Host No. 6 Tulsa won a wild match with No. 3 Memphis, which resulted in a 4-3 quarterfinal victory to advance to the semifinals.

Nikita Volonski and Timo Carlsson Seger won 6-3 at the second doubles court and Victor Tosetto and Gus Tettamble secured the doubles point at the third court with a 6-4 win.

Volonski claimed a win at the first singles court after winning set one 6-2, as Memphis’ Mortiz Kudersnatch was forced to retire in the second set. Takeshi Taco went to the final set at number three singles before scoring a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 triumph. Memphis added wins from Maxime Dubouch at second singles 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), Marco Castro Fabra at fifth singles 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-2 and Marko Milosavljevic at sixth singles 6-4, 6-4.

After tiebreakers to end both prior sets, Tulsa’s Ruben Fernandez ended a marathon showdown with Memphis’ Leandro Zgraggen 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-5) for the match point.
