GREENVILLE, NC – Aubrey Yarnall tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Charlotte to a 2-0 win over Tulsa in the second round of the American Conference Softball Championship on Wednesday at Joyner Family Softball Stadium.
The 49ers (32-25) advance to face No. 4 seed Florida Atlantic on Thursday at noon ET.
The game was a pitchers’ duel between Charlotte’s Yarnall and Tulsa’s Mackenzie Freeman, with neither team scoring through the first five innings.
Charlotte broke through in the sixth. Sydney Lewis and Londyn Dirks opened the inning with consecutive baserunners, and a sacrifice bunt moved both into scoring position. Savannah Nguyen followed with a sacrifice fly to plate the first run, and Dirks later stole home to make it 2-0.
Yarnall (9-5) allowed four hits and one walk while pitching a complete game for Charlotte. Freeman (3-3) took the loss, giving up two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings.
