GREENVILLE, NC – Ariah Mitchell delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift North Texas past UTSA 7-6 in the second round of the American Conference Softball Championship at Joyner Family Softball Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Mean Green (28-27) advance to face No. 3 seed East Carolina on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Blayze McNemar put North Texas on the board in the second inning with a two-run home run to left field, scoring Eva Daniels.
The Roadrunners (24-33) answered with runs in three straight innings to take the lead. Sabrina Wick scored the first run with a single past the shortstop in the third inning. Samantha Mundine hit an RBI double to center field in the fourth to tie the game, while Wick drove in her second run of the game with an RBI double to left center in the fifth to give UTSA a 3-2 lead.
North Texas responded immediately in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on second and third, a dropped third strike allowed Elizabeth Moffitt to score and tie the game at three.
Katia Reyes and Madison Hornback put UTSA back in front in the sixth inning with RBI singles to extend the lead to 6-3.
Kaycee Slovak cut into the deficit with a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the sixth. Later in the inning, with two outs and runners on first and second, Bradi Harman delivered an RBI single to left field to tie the game at six.
In the bottom of the seventh, Addie Perry led off with a double before Mitchell lined a single to left field to bring home the winning run.
Anneca Anderson started for the Mean Green, allowing three earned runs over 4.1 innings. Britney Lewinski (15-14) earned the win after tossing the final 2.2 innings in relief. Arlette Hernandez (14-15) took the loss for UTSA after allowing six runs in six innings.
