GREENVILLE, NC – Jesiana Mora hit a walk-off single to lift Florida Atlantic past Charlotte 5-4 in the quarterfinals of the American Conference Softball Championship on Thursday evening at Joyner Family Softball Stadium.
The Owls (34-19) advance to face No. 1 seed South Florida in the semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m. ET.
Charlotte struck first in the fourth inning. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases before Sydney Lewis drew a full-count walk to bring home the game’s first run.
Olivia Williams extended the 49ers’ lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single to left field.
Lewis added two more runs in the sixth inning with a two-run home run to center field, giving Charlotte a 4-0 advantage.
Florida Atlantic answered in the bottom of the sixth inning, capitalizing on a Charlotte error to spark a comeback. With the bases loaded, Chloe Yeatts hit a hard ground ball to first base that resulted in a fielding error, allowing all three runners to score. Two batters later, Lily Holtje lined a single to center field to score Yeatts and tie the game at 4-4.
The Owls completed the comeback in the seventh inning. A single and a walk put runners on first and second before Mora lined a walk-off single into the left-center gap to drive in the winning run.
Autumn Courtney (ND) got the start in the circle for Florida Atlantic, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing four runs on four hits. Ainsley Lambert (4-4) earned the win with 2.0 shutout innings in relief.
Taylor Jones (ND) started for Charlotte and pitched 6.2 innings, allowing five runs — one earned — on six hits. Aubrey Yarnall (9-6) was charged with the loss after recording the final out.
