Coleman Notches Hat Trick, Koski 17 Saves to Earn Weekly Honors

Weekly Release

Three American teams were represented in the third weekly American Athletic Conference women’s soccer awards on Monday. UCF junior Tatiana Coleman was named Offensive Player of the Week, and teammate Lena Petermann received Rookie of the Week honors. Cami Koski of Houston repeated as Goalkeeper of the Week, and UConn redshirt freshman Gabriella Cuevas was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Coleman posted The American’s second hat trick of the season in UCF’s 5-0 victory over North Florida on Friday. Her three goals came in only 45 minutes of play, and her performance marked the first hat trick for a Knight since 2007. Coleman led her team to a 2-0 weekend at the USF Soccer Classic, following the North Florida win with a 2-1 victory over Middle Tennessee on Sunday.

Petermann, a freshman midfielder, also notched a goal for UCF against North Florida, the first of her collegiate career. She assisted on Coleman’s second goal for a total of three points in the game. The 5-0 rout was the Knights’ third shutout of the season.

Koski earned her second consecutive Goalkeeper of the Week honors after a record-breaking weekend. She totaled 25 saves in Houston’s two games, eight in the Cougars’ 1-2 overtime loss to Cal State Northridge on Friday and 17 in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with San Diego State. Koski’s performance against SDSU set a new single game record for Houston, surpassing the previous mark of 15 saves. Her previous career-high for saves in a game was 13, set last season against UCF.

Cuevas led the UConn defense to another strong weekend. The Huskies posted two 1-0 victories over Maine and Syracuse to earn their third- and fourth-straight shutouts and rise to 4-2-0 overall. Cuevas and her backfield allowed only four shots on goal on the weekend and 10 total shots.
