SMU’s Tolbert, East Carolina’s Barkley Earn Men's Basketball Weekly Accolades



PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for games ending Dec. 13.  
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Tolbert • R-Sr. • F • SMU
Tolbert led No. 19 SMU to an 82-58 win over Michigan Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum, the Mustangs’ only game of the week. The forward led all players with 23 points on 11-of-12 (.916) shooting and added nine rebounds in 30 minutes off the bench. SMU remained undefeated with the win and improved to 7-0. The Mustangs are off to its best start since winning its first 10 games in 1997-98.


 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kentrell Barkley • Fr. • G/F • East Carolina
Barkley averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game as East Carolina split a pair of matchups last week. He posted his first career double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds at College of Charleston (CofC) on Monday and registered 11 points, seven rebounds and a career-high six assists in Sunday’s win over North Carolina A&T. Barkley led the Pirates in points at CofC and in rebounds in both games last week.

Tied the conference regular season high with 31 points in win over LSU, scored 11 of his 31 points in overtime vs. the Tigers

Scored 21 points with eight rebounds and three assists in Saturday’s win over Manhattan, Memphis’ only game of the week, was 10-of-16 from the field vs. the Jaspers
 
Josh Brown • Jr. • G • Temple
Averaged 11.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists last week, posted first career double-double (13 points, 12 boards) vs. Saint Joseph’s
 
James Woodard • Sr. • G • Tulsa
Averaged 20.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for Tulsa, had a pair of 20-point games and went a combined 9-of-11 from the charity line
