Houston, USF, SMU and Tulane Athletes Earn Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Student-athletes from Houston, USF, SMU and Tulane are the winners of the second weekly American Athletic Conference awards for outdoor track and field in the 2015 season.
 
Houston’s Isaac Williams is Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for his performance in the 110-meter hurdles and 4x100 relay at the Texas Relays. The junior from Willingboro, New Jersey, posted the best conference time of the year in the 110-meter hurdles (14.23) and ran the anchor of a 4x100 relay team that posted the top conference finish of the season (40.14). The hurdles time is good for ninth on the NCAA West qualifying list.
 
USF’s Matthew O’Neal is the second consecutive Bull to win Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors for his outing in the triple jump at the Texas relays. The junior from Jackson, Mississippi, recorded a mark of 53-8.5/16.37m in Austin, good for the best mark in the conference by over four feet and second place in East qualifying.
 
Tulane’s Lilla McMillan is Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for her performance in the 200 and 400-meter dash at Georgia Tech. The junior from Mill Valley, California, posted conference-best times in both events, as she finished the 200 in 23.68 and the 400 in 54.56. McMillan’s time in the 200 places her fifth in the East.
 
SMU’s Isabella Marten is Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after recording the best mark in the nation in the triple jump. The freshman from Stuttgart, Germany, recorded a mark of 43-4.25/13.21m at Texas State. Marten also competed in the high jump, clearing 5-5/1.65m.

Weekend Recap

- UCF won the UCF Invitational in Orlando, which also served as a senior day event for five Knights. Rosie Chamberlain won the 800 in 2:08.89, which places her first in The American and sixth in the East. Lia King won the triple jump in 40-10.25/12.45m.
 
- Cincinnati hosted the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, as the Bearcat women took first place and the men finished second. Macklin Tudor won the men’s shot put (57-0.75/17.39) and discus (186-10/56.94), while Kaitlyn Good won the heptathlon (5,129).
 
- The UConn men took part in the Texas Relays, with Craig Hunter putting up an outdoor career-best 17-6.5/5.35m in the pole vault. The Huskies women took part in the Raleigh Relays, as Deysha Smith-Jenkins won the 400 (55.22), Natasha McLaren took first in the high jump (5-7/1.70m) and the 4x400 team won in 3:47.08.
 
- East Carolina’s Kaylee Redon recorded the best conference mark of the season in the women’s hammer (181-7/55.36m). Teammate Shewit Weldense won the women’s 10,000 in a conference-best time of 36:45.90.


- Houston’s Justine Price threw a conference-best 167-8/51.11m in the women’s discus at the Texas Relays. Damon Thompson notched a mark of 193-6/58.99m at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State.
 
- Memphis’ Michael Criticos broke the facility record at Alabama with a heave of 230-5/70.23m in the men’s javelin, good for fourth in the East. Sabrina Hochreuther cleared 13-0.25/3.97m in the women’s pole vault, which places her 13th in the East. Both marks are best in The American.
 
- Rachael Klinger posted a score of 5,122 in the heptathlon at the Texas Relays. Dwight Davis won the men’s 200 (21.47), Leandra Munson took the women’s 5,000 (17:41.15) and Michael Babinec captured the men’s 3,000 steeplechase (9:25.06).
 
- SMU split its squad between the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State. In addition to Marten’s performance in the triple jump, Tochi Nlemchi posted the top conference mark in the women’s shot put (50-10/15.49m) and Lucija Cvitanovic won the women’s javelin (151-4/46.12m).
 
- Temple recorded a pair of first-place finishes at the Maryland Invitational. Sydnee Jacques won the triple jump at 36-1/11.01m and 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 14.96.
 
- Tulane’s Devon Breaux posted a mark of 24-1.75/7.36m in his first long jump performance of the season. Daliadiz Ortiz won the women’s javelin at 153-3/46.71m.
 
- Tulsa’s Alex Lybarger won the men’s hammer at Arkansas with a toss of 195-0.5/59.45. Olivia O’Hare won the women’s 1,500 in 4:31.52.
