Houston, Memphis and Cincinnati Athletes Earn Weekly Outdoor Track and Field Honors

 PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s second weekly outdoor track and field honors of the 2016 season, for the week ending March 27.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
LeShon Collins • Sr. • Houston • Newark, Del.
Collins is the Male Track Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Victor Lopez Classic, held in Houston. The senior competed in the 100 meter dash, taking first place with a time of 10.36. His time is No. 2 in the American Athletic Conference and tied for No. 10 in the NCAA this season. In addition, Collins ran the first leg of the 4x100 meter relay, which finished in first place at the meet. The Cougar relay team crossed the finish line in 39.66, which is the fastest time in the conference and No. 5 in the country this season.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Selena Sierra • Sr. • Houston • Channelview, Texas
Sierra has been selected as the Female Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by Rice University. In her first race of the 2016 outdoor season, the senior finished with a time of 10:49.50. Sierra currently holds the top spot in the conference in the event and ranks No. 22 nationally. The mark also stands as the fourth-best time in school history in the event.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Wesner has been named the Male Field Athlete of the Week after taking first place in the high jump at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational, held in Nashville, Tenn. The freshman posted a mark of 2.15 meters, which ranks No. 1 in the conference and No 11 in the NCAA this year.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Annette Echikunwoke • So. • Cincinnati • Pickerington, Ohio
Echikunwoke claimed Female Field Athlete of the Week honors after earning a pair of first-place finishes at the Miami Hurricane Twilight Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. In the hammer throw, the sophomore took first with a toss of 59.97 meters, which is No. 3 in the conference and No. 19 in the nation this season. Echikunwoke’s throw of 14.98 meters was the top mark in the shot put event, and currently ranks No. 4 in the conference and No. 54 in the NCAA. She also competed in the discus throw, posting a mark of 43.10 meters to tie for fourth place at the meet.
