Women's Soccer: Weekly Honors Announced




PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's soccer honors for the week ending Sept. 4

Offensive Player of the Week
Carol Rodrigues * Sr. * F * UCF
Rodrigues scored three goals over the weekend as the Knights went 2-0-0. She played a vital role against Oklahoma State as she scored the first goal for UCF in the 84th minute. She also scored both goals in the Knight's 2-1 victory over Stetson.

Defensive Player of the Week
Saga Fredriksson * Jr. * D * UCF
Fredriksson started both matches over the weekend as she anchored the back line for UCF. In the 88th minute, she scored the game tying goal off a corner kick for the Knights against Oklahoma State.

Goalkeeper of the Week
Emily Armstrong * Sr. * UConn
Armstrong takes home this award for the second time this season. She posted a shutout against Pacific as she made five saves in the match. She also had two saves in the Huskies victory over Central Connecticut.

Rookie of the Week
Andrea Hauksdottir * Fr. * F * USF

Hauksdottir scored the game-winning goal for the Bulls in their victory over  Alabama. She led the team with three shots in the match and was the only offensive player to contribute a full 90 minutes in the match.

Weekly Honor Roll
Stephanie Ribeiro * Sr. * F * UConn
Scored two game-winning goals and provided an assist in the Huskies undefeated weekend.

Valerie Sanderson * Sr. * F * Memphis
Scored two of the team's three goals in the Tigers match against UMKC including the game-winning goal in just the second minute.

Olivia Gauthier * So. * D * Memphis
Anchored the Memphis a back line that only allowed one shot on goal in the Tigers 3-0 shutout of UMKC.

Taylor Barg * Sr. * D * SMU
Scored her fifth career goal and her first goal of the season as she played all 90 minutes for the Mustangs in their match against Butler.

Rachel Thun * Jr. * MF * Tulsa
Scored three goals and had two assists in Tulsa two victories over the weekend including the game-winners in both matches.
